Caroline Tobacco

Caroline Dee Tobacco, 47, of Crow Agency, Montana went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2020 after battling a short illness. Her husband,  children and family were by her side. Her Indian name Ishbiliwaaxpáash (Her Water is Sacred) was given to her by her clan aunt, Darlene Eastman. Caroline was born on July 18, 1973 to the late Sandra Other Medicine and Gordon Tobacco, Sr. She was a member of the Catholic Church, a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and a child of the Greasy Mouth. In the summer of 2006 Caroline participated and finished her first Sundance in Pryor, Montana and was proud of this. 

Growing up in the boundaries of the Crow Reservation including Fort Smith, Wyola and Crow Agency. She received her education in Wyola, Pretty Eagle and St. Labre where she excelled in  basketball.  She started playing at the age of 10 for the Wyola Wildcats.  She passed on her basketball skills to her nieces and to her children.  In 1998-1999, she participated in the Girls’ City Basketball League with her sisters.  They were called “Show Time”.  Caroline loved supporting and cheering on her children, grandchildren and other family members as the played the game of basketball.  In 1998 Caroline received her GED and CNA Certificate at the Quentin and Burdick Job Corps in Minot, North Dakota.  She then attended college at United Tribes in Bismarck, North Dakota pursuing her LPN.  Caroline married Lawrence “Pete” Big Hair on May 5, 2003.  The couple was blessed with seven children. Caroline was employed at the Crow Tribal Courts and the Awekualawaache Care Center in Crow Agency.

Caroline is preceded in death by her parents, Sandra and Gordon; a daughter Cassie Marie; her grandmothers Caroline Shane, Amelia Passes, Violet Other Medicine, Esther Plenty Hawk Walks; her grandfathers Gus Other Medicine, Bernard Tobacco; her uncles Robert Other Medicine, Brent Dale Shane, Leland Walks, Sr., Joe Tobacco, Hiram Tobacco, Mortimer Comes From Above Plenty Hawk; her aunts Vanette Dawes, Ardene Other Medicine, Louise Chavez, LuAnn Tobacco and Bernadine Tobacco; her sister Dena Mountain Sheep, Rochelle Walks, Ceceliy Shane; her brothers Ryan Harjo, Justin Shane; her nephews Conrad Walks, Jr., Leland Walks, Jr.; her grandchild Rory Old Chief.

She is survived by her husband Lawrence Pete Big Hair; her children Joshua High Hawk, Sara (Milen) Fisher, Jalen High Hawk, Julia High Hawk, Lawrence Pete Big Hair, Jr., Jeanaya High Hawk; grandchildren Kaizlynn Fisher and Kalan High Hawk; her sisters Farah Tobacco, Carrie Other Medicine, Deidra Mountain Sheep, Rena Sees The Ground, Norman Morning, Opal Mountain Sheep, Willmina Old Crow, Rosie Other Medicine, Karna Yarlott, Thelma Bird, Christina and Lori Chavez, Megan Haley Jefferson, Shyra, Tysha  and Ashley Walks; her brothers Gordon Tobacco, Jr., Elliott Mountain Sheep, Everette Walks, Lance and Stephen House, Brent Other Medicine, Tommy and Gary Dawes, Bruce Other Medicine, Bruce Dawes, Donny and Johnny Harjo, Ralph, Kendall and Kevin Chavez, Mattias Walks, Emelio Walks, Sr., Shawn and Bumper Tobacco, Cameron and Lance Tobacco, Bill House; her uncles John Other Medicine, Larry and Dana Tobacco, Manford, Ira and Conrad Walks; her aunts Dineen Other Medicine, Sarah House, Arnette and Theda Walks and Ann Horseman. She loved her nieces and nephews and had a special bond with Sharmanda Plain Bull and called her Baby Girl; her special friends Kim Other Medicine, Rochelle Fighter, Tawny Little Owl and Ada Morrison.  Her extended family includes the other Medicine, Passes, Pretty Weasel, Birdinground, Pickett, Shane, Three Irons, Tobacco, Walks, Plenty Hawk, Left Hand, Fitzpatrick and Blaine.  Please accept our apologies if we have forgotten anyone during our time of grief, we have a large family.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday July 29, 2020  at the Crow Agency Cemetery at 11:00. Visitation will be Tuesday July 28th from 10:00 to 4:00  at the Bullis Funeral Chapel.  Bullis Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
