Esley Claren Old Elk Jr. 19 died at St. Vincent’s Hospital on May 21, 2019. “Baakuuxshichiliisaash” (Not Afraid To Help) given to him by Manuel Covers Up, came into this world a beautiful miracle born on September 20, 1999 at St. Vincent’s hospital in Billings to Esley Old Elk. Sr. and Ranita Redfield and to Godparents Darren & Rhonda Singer and Dr. David Jackson. When only a day old, he was flown to Seattle to undergo surgery to remove one of his kidneys. Surviving cancer as a newborn he was a tough one from the start. He was full of life and seemed to know in his heart that life here on earth was a gift. He was always giving of himself even after he parted from this life, he gave life to others with his donation of his organs. We all agreed that it was just like him to be generous and honored his wishes.
Esley attended Kennedy Elementary, Central Jr High School in Lawrence, Kansas, St. Labre High School Ashland MT and graduated from Hays-Lodge Pole High School in Hays. He worked at Alenco as a canvasser in Lawrence, Kansas and as a roofer and framer for JFJ Construction and Dominguez Construction in Billings. He worked on the construction crew building the Lodge Pole Store. Esley was taking online courses and had earned his flaggers certificate. Esley played basketball, baseball, biking and ran cross country he enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, and traveling to powwows and peyote meetings. Esley was always hanging out with his nieces and nephews. He recently started to travel and loved it.
He parted this earth the same way he came in, a miracle. Because of his unselfishness four others will have a chance in life. One will have his loving heart, another his strong kidney, one will have his perfect liver, and one will see life through his bright corneas.
