Fred Bishop passed away on March 22, 2018 at the Big Horn County Hospital in Hardin. He was born on June 10, 1954 to Mervin Bishop and Gwendolyn Messerly. He grew up on the Nellie Kirkaldie Messerly Ranch near Brookside and attended school at Lodge Pole. As a young man he helped his uncle, Boom Messerly, with branding, feeding cows, breaking horses and haying. In his free time he enjoyed working on his own car. He had many adventures with his sister, brothers and cousins on the ranch. He married Serena Old Bull in Sheridan in 1977. The couple made their home in Lodge Grass. Fred lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed taking his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren camping, fishing and hunting. He shared his talent for fixing vehicles with his family. He built pole barns and worked for BIA Forestry. Fred was a hard worker who provided the best he could for all his loved ones. He was very proud of his oldest grandson, Jacob Bishop, who took Papa to Las Vegas for the INFR in 2008 to watch him compete in the bullriding event. He was so generous to all his children, grandchildren and friends and loved them all equally. His big heart will be missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Mervin, his grandparents Harry and Stella Bishop, Glyenn and Nellie Kirkaldie “Mom” Messerly, his uncles Babe, Boom, Hop, Beans Messerly, Gordon “Biggers” Graham; his aunts Swede Messerly, Pat Christiansen, Ruth Foreman and Pug Webb; grandchildren Michael DeCrane and Emanual Blaine; great grandchild Angelina Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, his mother Gwen, daughters Karla (Sidney) DeCrane, Phoenix Jefferson, Anne Jo Old Bull and Kimberly Ashley (Derrik) Vasquez and Rose Hill; his sons Gordon, Jacob (Jessica) and Daniel Bishop and Kevin (Chloe) Old Bull; his grandchildren Mervin Bishop, Romello, Daniel, Devin and Sidney DeCrane, Jr., Debra Bishop, Carlow Birdinground, Blessing and Santina Bishop and his great grandchildren Colton, David, Travis, Brocade and Blake Fred Bishop , Avalon Old Bull and Baby Emmanuel Blaine Jr. ; his brothers Mervin “Babes” (Toni) Bishop, Kelvin “Pete” Bishop, Edward “Eddie” (Sherrill); his sister Sherry (Elgin) Bishop; his cousins Roy Christensen and Dennis and Nolan Webb; Also, his best friends Adrian Bird Jr., Alley Littlelight, Dale Birdinground, Bill Turner, Don McKenzie, Edward (Peanut) Harmon,Eli (Felicia)Lafrance, Harold (Megan) Stone, James Bennett, Johnny (Delilah)Flores, Marty and Randy Not Afraid, Mike and Ruth Walter, Terrance and William Springfield, Tony Pisano, Sonny Littlewolf, Paul Pryor, Mary Amyotte, Mickie Fulkerson, and Raedawn Wallace. The funeral services will be Tuesday March 27th at the Bullis Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am with interment to following in the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
