Irene Bearquiver

Maheo welcomed Irene Jennie BearQuiver Ma’et monde’ (Red Clay Women) home on June 5th 2019 at 90 years of age she was born on March 19th, 1929. 

She attended school at Tongue River Boarding School. She worked at Northern Cheyenne Tribal Schools as a teachers aid and she also worked as a cook at the northern Cheyenne elderly program. She had fond memories of the Mennonite Church where she learned skills she greatly enjoyed such as gardening, cooking, and sewing. She also enjoyed breaking horses and riding horses with her dear friend Marie Big back. 

She was excellent dry meat cutter and beader which she passed down to her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was watching Westerners. She also helped both of her sons in finishing their ceremonial vows. Her husband who served in World War II passed away at an early age so she was left to raise all ten of her children on her own and raising some of her children also served in the Armed Services. She took pride in raising her grandchildren. She always kept her home open to anyone who was homeless or friends of the family. 

Irene is survived by her beloved sister Francis Swallow and her siblings Ethlene Killsnight and Rodger Killsnight; her children Loretta (Elmore) Leon, Ranee, Richard Sr,., James, Hannah, Mary BearQuiver, Norma Gourneau, Quintina Hawk, Brian Two Moons, Richard Littlebear, Rick Wolfname, Dwight(Jackie) Bullcoming; her neices and nephews Otto (Barbra), Martin, Elizabeth, Lavonda, Braidedhair Teresa Small, Joette, Mary, Tina, Veronica, Angelina, and Joe bearcomesout, Maria, Anna Fourbear; her grandchildren Wally and Adrian Morin, Melissa(Wendel) Lefthand, Kimberly, Todd (Arinessa) Leon, Dana (Lawrence) Monteau, Angelita(Milan) BearQuiver-Godreaux, Jennie BearQuiver, Richard (Camille) BearQuiverJr., Dennis BearQuiver, Earlene Clown, Daniel, Tyleigh, Elena, Lucianna Morales, Rosanna Contreraz and numerous great grandchildren and the Killsnight, Blackwolf, Risingsun, RomanNose, HisBadHorse, Longjaw, Roundstone, Larson, Medicineelk, Freemond, Morin, Weaslebear, Walksalong  families. Sorry if we missed you, our family is very large.

Irene is proceeded in death by her Father Charles Killsnight and mother Rose Blindman and her uncle and aunt who raised her John and Jene Lonetravelingwolf; her sisters Rose, Suzanne, Agnes, Bessie, Eva, Margaret, Dorothy, Killsnight, Agnes and Victoria Marshall, Agnes Littlehead, Agnes Bearcomesout, Victoria Walksalong; sister in-law Grace BearQuiver her brothers; Robert, Eugene, Hubert Killsnight and Arthur Marshall and Children Frank BearQuiver Jr,., Edward, Edmond, Grace, Terra, Jimmy, Dennis, Victor, Bullet (Francis) Wilson, Larry and Philip RisingSun; grandchildren Eileen Leon, Lori Morin, Dimz and Roy Birdinground. 

We would like to thank St.Vincent Health Care Staff, Crow ER staff and the NCT CHR, PHN staff for helping and making our mother comfortable on her last days.
Funeral June 10, 2019 at the Bearquiver Family Home. Burial at the Little Bighorn National Cemetery in Crow Agency.
