Jeffery Medicine Horse Jefferson, 67 of Wyola, Montana went to the Other Side Camp on June 13, 2021. HIs Indian name Akbahaititchá (Always Doing Good Things) was given to him by the late Warren Bear Cloud. He was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and was a child of the Piegan Clan. He was born June 10, 1954 in Crow Agency to Calvin Jefferson, Sr. and Violet Medicine Horse Birdinground. He was raised by the late Hazel One Goose in Wyola. He attended Wyola Elementary School and graduated from high school Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. He attended SIPI in Albuquerque, NM studying art and also attended the Santa Fe Art Institute where he studied silversmithing. Jeffery was a talented artist specializing in murals; his murals are in many of the Crow Reservation Schools. He was honored for his mural in the Lodge Grass City Hall. He was also a sign painter. Jeffery was a “jack of all trades” and joked that he was a “MacGyver”. He was an expert with nunchucks and a fan of Jujitsu and UMMA and all forms of martial arts. He always drove a “low rider” and made sure even in the winter that the tire rims were clean. He also excelled as a hunter and fisherman. He had a natural talent in all aspects of his artwork and arrow throwing. He won Queenie, a quarter horse, as a champion arrow thrower.
He is preceded in death by his parents Calvin Jefferson, Sr. and Violet Medicine Horse Birdinground; grandparents Hazel One Goose, Frank Medicine Horse, Sr. and Lester Jefferson, Sr. and Mary Carpenter; his sisters Patricia, Kandee and Magdalene Medicine Horse and Patricia Williams; his brothers Barney Birdinground, Kennard and Calvin Jefferson, Jr. and Wayne Williams; his uncles Cleo Sr., Frank, Sr.,Archie Medicine Horse; his aunts Charlotte Falls Down, Jewel Williams and Belva Tushka.
He is survived by his daughters Marcel Medicine Horse-Povijua and Latanah Jefferson; his sons Brandon, Matthew, DuShane and Cordell Jefferson and Chris Wesley; his wife of 40 years Margaret Jefferson;his grandchildren Kymani, Malina, Kasia and Jerod; his sisters Twyla (Wesley Stewart) Birdinground, Evelyn and Dorothy Jefferson, Denise Nomee, Leitha (Danny) Gun Shows, Luanna (Marvin) Stewart and Pansy (Andy) Yellow Mule, Myrna Medicine Horse, Tina and Kathleen Black Eagle, Mary Ruth (Danny) Plain Feather, Terry Anna and Crescentia Cummins, Kaylene, Mikki, Jewel and Lynn Tushka, Roberta Old Bear and Lydia Birdinground, Theo (Elias) Hugs, Ora Mae Shane, Barbara Bacon, Francine Amyotte, Arvilla Fly, Paulette and Marilyn Not Afraid; his brothers Adrian Medicine Horse, DuWayne (Linda) Birdinground, Sean Birdinground, Hartford (Dinah), LaGrant (Bertha), Cedric (Audrey) and Bradford (Billie Kay) Black Eagle, Thomas and John Cummins, Gregory, Rylan and Darin Williams, Scott (Lauren) Medicine Horse, Wesley (Melissa) and Myron (Victoria) Falls Down, Coolidge (Michelle) Jefferson, Jimmy Tushka Jr., Marlin (Reva) and Garland (Isabelle) Not Afraid, John Grim and Pat (Carol) Alden, Sr.; all of the late Frank Medicine Horse’s children. The extended family is from Pierre DuChien, and One Goose descendants, Mable Townsend Pretty on Top children, Medicine Horse family and the Eastman, Cummins, LaRance, Brien, Old Horn, Round Face, Jefferson, Heywood Big Day family and the Sioux relatives include Little Warrior, Whirlwind Horse, Pretty Voice Hawk and Bad Hand. Our family is large, please forgive us if we have forgotten you in our grief.
Funeral services will be held Thursday June 17, 2021 at 11:00 at the Multi Purpose Building with interment to follow in the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
