LODGE GRASS–Joan Horn, 88, of Lodge Grass, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 in the Crow Agency IHS Hospital. God Blessed Joan with the celebration of Christmas in Heaven where she will join her beloved family who have gone before her in the praise of God and enjoy living in the fullness of everlasting life.Her Crow Indian Name is, Iiwishilu Xiassaash (Outstanding Gifts for Wedding Proposal) was given to her by Mrs. Medicine Crow. Joan was born on November 14, 1929 in Lodge Grass. The daughter of Samuel and Mary Ann Bear Below Horn, she grew up in the Lodge Grass area along the Lodge Grass Creek. Joan received her education at the Albright School and the Lodge Grass School. She graduated from Eastern Montana College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught at Crow Agency, Wyola and Lodge Grass Schools where she retired. Joan along with her Dad and two brothers started their family cattle business with the 1920’s BIA ID cattle program that the Horn family still continues today. Joan was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and the Holy Order of St. Francis. She was proud of her family’s educational achievements and was expecially proud that her daughters were all religious educational teachers. She helped raise her 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews from the Horn family. She has 51 great grandchildren, 56 great great grandchildren and 3 sixth generation grandchildren. Joan is survived by her 2 daughters Roseline(Loren) and Trivian(Jeff) and 3 sons Dan (Leitha)Gun Shows, Joe and Hugo White Clay, a brother Floyd and sister Joan Big Medicine.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lorretto in Lodge Grass. Burial will be at the Lodge Grass Cemetery.
