Johnny Marty Fighter, 45, tragically passed away on Wednesday April 10, 2019. “Big John” as he was affectionately known was born May 22, 1973 to Loretta Bird and James Wood in Gallup, New Mexico. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth clan and a child of Greasy Mouth. He grew up in St. Xavier and was raised by his maternal grandmother, Nora Fighter. He attended school at Pretty Eagle and after graduating from the 8th grade he went to Chemawa Indian School in Oregon. He completed his GED at the Kicking Horse Job Corps in Ronan, Montana. John was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Revival Church and attended services at Faith Chapel in Billings. In his early years, he traveled throughout the country working at various jobs. He had many hobbies including beading, cooking, fishing, hunting, rodeos and helping on Indian relay teams and working with the horses at the race tracks. Big John was well known for his frybread and his very caring nature. John participated in traditional sweats. He was a wonderful grandfather. He encouraged and supported them in all their endeavors and was so proud of their many achievements. He loved watching them participate in football, volleyball, wrestling, basketball and all their activities. He loved them dearly and they will all miss him.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Bird Bouyer; his grandmother Nora Fighter; his grandfathers Richard Bird and Harold Whiteclay; his uncle Pastor Gary Bird; his son Dale “DJ” St. Claire, Jr. and granddaughter Isabella Redding.
John leaves behind his wife, Tina Fighter; his father James Wood of New Mexico; his children Jayde, Lalayna and Laticia Stiffarm, Lisa (David) Contreraz, Deanna St. Claire, Salena Big Man, Nevaeh LaHaye; his grandchildren Braiylee Stiffarm, Javier, David Jr. ( Lou Dogg), Kylena, Mariella (Puppy), Malea (Nay-Nay) Contreraz, Elias (Bubbaz) Jr, Alejandro (A.J.) Adame, Alondra and Andreas Reynoso, Aliyah Big Man, Hannah and Chico St. Claire; his sisters Coretta Fighter, Nina (David) Big Man; his brothers Aaron (Anita) Fighter and Junior Bird; his aunts Cheryl (Levi) Yellowmule, Bertha (Lagrant), Black Eagle; his uncles Adrian Bird, Sr., Miles (Rochelle) Fighter, and Daryll Little Light; his grandmothers Erma Jane (Wayne) Moccasin and Mary Helen Medicine Horse; his nieces Raeanna, Veronica, Roberta, Kevannah, Cheryl and Kyla; his nephews Gary, David, Jr. and Nathaniel and many additional nieces and nephews. He is a descendent of Chief Pretty Eagle. His extended family includes Bird, Bompard, Fighter, He Does It, Don’t Mix, Hugs, Big Hair, Good Horse and Smart Enemy.

Services will be held on Tuesday April 16 at 11:00 am at the Spirit of Life Foursquare Church in Crow Agency. Internment to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Hardin. Bullis Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
