Justine Sun Goes Slow, Dak`aakitche, “Good Bird” age 67, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 5, 2019 at the Billings Clinic.
Justine was born on February 10, 1952 to Edna Dust and Johnny Sun Goes Slow. She was a child of Piegan. She married Kenneth Deputee, Sr. and was later divorced.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Justine was an avid fan of her children and grandchildren during sports and cultural activities. She was there through good and hard times always showing her love and support. She attended Lodge Grass Schools and Fort Sill Indian School in Oklahoma. She received her high school equivalency diploma. Justine worked for IHS in Crow Agency and as a teacher’s aide at Lodge Grass School’s. She obtained her Nursing Aide Certification which she used to work with special needs patients at the Big Horn Memorial Hospital and Heritage Acres Nursing Homes. Justine is known for her delicious meals that she would prepare for her family, especially during the holidays. Justine’s home was always open to friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her aunt Martha Dust; her brothers Kenneth Sun Goes Slow, Sr. and Dallas Dust, Sr.; her sisters Vicki Dust, Dorothy Sun Goes Slow, Ella Gene Lance and Carlene Prettyontop; nephews Quannah and Willie Bird; grandson Tayshon Sun Goes Slow.
She is survived by her sons Delin (Violet), Jonathan, Ken (Shonna), Jr and Kendall (Janet) Deputee, Richard (Terry), Juan, and Johnny (Delilah) Flores, Jr.; daughters Amber (Isaiah) Stewart, Carina Flores Deputee, Dajan Deputee and her adopted granddaughter Chayanna Wilson; her adopted sons Nathaniel (Ariel) Deputy, Colton (Faye) Herrera, Tye (Marina) Backbone, Truman “Boogie” (Brittany) Jefferson, Darnell Phelan, Sr., AJ (Deneen) Not Afraid, Jr., Larry Big Lake and Phillip Rising Sun, Jr.; her adopted daughters Alta (Forrest) Old Man and Eugenia (Cordell) Bravo; her sisters Aldean Dust, Redstar Price, Claudene, Tonya Mountainpocket-Dust, Berthina Nomee and Serena Bishop; brothers Isaac, John and Joe Dust, Dean and Dana Bird, Sr.; her many grandchildren and great-granddaughters . Her special friends Nellie Little Light, Bridgette King, Grace Kellum and Nadine Dawes.
She is also survived by numerous families and friends including the Sun Goes Slow, Dust, Flores, Red Star, Brightwings, Little Light, Williamson, Moccasin On Top, Coversup, Good Luck, GrosVentre, Greybull, Old Bull, Standsoverbull, Morning and the Bear Ground families. If we have forgotten anyone during this time of grief, please accept our apology.
