Letitia Stewart

 Letitia Mary Stewart., was born on October 20, 1953 to David and the late Adelia (Little Owl) Stewart, Sr., passed away on September 8, 2020.  She was a descendant of Chief Pretty Eagle and Chief Bellrock. She was a member of the Ties the Bundle clan, a child of the Greasy Mouth clan, and a member of the Spirit Of Life Foursquare Church. 

Letitia received her early education in Crow Agency, MT. She attended Wapato High School in Wapato, WA., as well as Hardin High School.  She later attended Eastern Montana College in Billings and graduated from United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, N.D., with an AAS degree in Medical Technology. While attending UTTC she was active in student senate, serving as the Student Body President. She later worked at United Tribes Technical College in the President’s office for Dr.  Dave Gipp as an Administrative Assistant. 

Her favorite past times included cheerleading at Crow Public School,  while a member of the UTTC Community she was active on the UTTC Powwow Committee, BisMan Midwinter Powwow, Miss Indian America Pageant, the Eastern Montana College Powwow and The Veterans Powwow that was held in Billings, MT. Active in AIHEC she also served as the National Student Congress President. As an avid sports fan she attended The NJCAA Championship Tournament in Danville, Illinois cheering for the UTTC Thunderbirds. She was a dedicated “Bulldawg” fan as well. She was a number one fan of all her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities including pow wow, handgames, Small Steps dance class, cross country, basketball, football, rodeo, cheerleading and volleyball.  She also enjoyed sewing, beading, making moccasins and blankets. She gifted all our babies with hand stitched and tie blankets. She was well known for her hospitality and friendly demeanor giving her heart to anyone who needed a mom. As well as opening her home to students who could not make it home for the holidays. 

Letitia was preceded in death by her mother, baby boy Edward “Bee” Fasthorse; adopted parents Phillip & Martha Beaumont, grandparents, Frank and Margaret {Spotted Horse) Stewart and William and Agnes (Ceasley) Little Owl; aunts, Lucy Little Owl, Darlene Hugs, Hazel Not Afraid, Philamine Old Coyote, Lauren Spint, Priscilla Gardner; uncles, Xavier Little Owl, Ettinge Little Owl, Frances and Donald Stewart, Sr, Ruben Stewart Sr., and Isaac Shane, Sr; brothers, Cyrus Stewart Sr., Franklin Stewart & Clinton Stewart Sr., Newlyn Little Owl, Dennis Beaumont and adopted sisters; Lorna Four Dances, Rosa Reed, Janice Smith, nephews Waylon Bighead, Earl Biss Jr., and niece Carla Jonez, adopted nephew John Skinner and special friend Jess Clairmont. 

Survivors include her father, David Stewart Sr.; her children Geri (Edison) Fasthorse, Kristi (Lawrence) Pretty On Top, David Blaine, Lauren (Jarod) Azure, Benedict Fasthorse, Christopher (Angel) Big Hair, Troy Blount, Sunshine Takes Horse & Promise Little Soldier.  Grandchildren: Anthony, Jerrin, Tayla, Shylon, Rope, Jada,  Chance, JJ, Julian, MyAhlin, Adelia, Justice, Jasa, Jillian, Evangeline, Rose, Baby Ben, Great grandson Honor Moses, her UTTC family of staff and students and her special companion dog Rotten.   

Adopted mother Evangeline Fasthorse, Her sisters, Donna, Jessica, Patleen & Kaya Stewart, Loretta Thomas, Linda Lupe, Henrietta(Dennis) Whiteman, Karlita Knight, Ruth(Carl) Brown, Jolene(Richard) Beaumont Whiteclay, Edwina Beaumont, Jennifer (Kenneth)Turns Plenty, Mary Goes Ahead-Volk and Jackie Morsette; her brothers, David Stewart Jr., Stanley Pretty Paint, Tommy Gardner, Dennis (Vianna) Stewart Sr, Steve (Dee) and Paul( Cindy) Roper, Ronnie (Marcia) & Phillip (Vivian) Beaumont Jr, Neil Beaumont.; her aunts, Wilma (Lawrence) Stands, Beverly (Tom) Pretty on Top, Nora (Dennis) Big Hair, Harriet Little Owl, uncles:  Tom (Linda) and Larry (Linda) Little Owl; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, many friendships she had throughout her lifetime; as well as her extended family including the Stewart, Little Owl, Spotted Horse, Bell Rock, Beaumont, Bird Hat, Good Luck, White Clay, Jefferson, Ceasley, He Does It, Old Crow, Bad Bear, Smith, Jackson, Johnson, Fasthorse and Beebee families. Our family is large; if we have forgotten to mention you, please accept our apologies. 

My life has been full, I’ve savored much. Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief, Lift up your hearts and share with me, God called me by my name. He set me free. 

Graveside service Monday September 14, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery.
