Lonn A. Fritzler, “Bisheechia Iikaash” Sees the White Buffalo, age 59, went to the Other Side Camp on November 22, 2019. He was born October 16, 1960 in Billings, Montana. He was the third son of Glenn A. Fritzler and Minnie Ellen (White Man Runs Him) Fritzler. Lonn was a member of the Whistling Water Clan and a Big Lodge child.
Lonn grew up in Lodge Grass, Montana graduating from Lodge Grass High School in 1979. His eldest daughter, Christina Fritzler-Not Afraid, was born in 1977. He went on to graduate from Montana State University – Bozeman with a degree in Ag-Business. It was in college Lonn met and married Charitina “Sherry” Faith Miller on September 3, 1983 in Lodge Grass. Together they had two sons, Lonny and Teyon. He also loved and raised Shannon and Amber as his own. He took Elvin Fritzler as a son and Jyton Bird Faraway as a daughter and also adopted Lauri Dawn Kindness in Crow tradition.
After graduating from college, they moved back to Lodge Grass. It was always Lonn’s desire to return home and use his education to benefit the Crow People. He worked at Little Big Horn College as an IT Instructor and taught Economics which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also created the “Chickadee Lodge Institute” – which focused on economic development. The activity he was involved in that received the most attention dealt with preparing Crow men to be fly fishing guides on the Big Horn River. He was instrumental in upholding the rights of our Crow fishing guides on our river – a legacy that continues through his nephew, Sean Fritzler. Along the way, he discovered his own passion to work as a fly-fishing and bird-hunting guide and did so for nearly 15 years. During this time, he was awarded Orvis Guide of the Year. Lonn participated in Crow traditional dancing from a young age and was a member of the Ree Society. He was a participant in the Sun Dance. He never missed an opportunity to learn Crow history and tradition and was captivated by the stories of his elders.
He loved “Crow Country” and began exploring at a very young age. He always knew where to get the best uuke, fresh spring water and bear root. He was an avid sweat hog and was given the right to build a sweat by his grandfather, John White Man Runs Him. He was very well read and had a story or quote for everything.
His dad and grandpa Albert taught him to ride, break, and train horses. He rodeoed all throughout high school, roping, bulldogging, and he especially loved riding saddle bronc. He loved to fish, hunt, and explore the country. He had a unique love for animals and he was never without a faithful a companion be it a horse, a bird, or a dog, etc. One of his favorite adventures was to hunt horseback in the Big Horns with his dad, brothers, and their sons.
Lonn was a professional prankster and no one was immune from his practical jokes, or witty, and sometimes biting humor. Lonn never hesitated to push the limit! His view was that life was a series of adventures and one in particular was his role in Sesame Street along with Karen White Man Runs Him and Rod Rondeaux and their trip to New York City.
He was an avid pool player that loved the strategy and fellowship of the game. He enjoyed traveling to tournaments and playing in pool leagues with his family. He made many friends in his many pool adventures.
Lonn struggled with substance abuse addiction that ended his life far too soon. He was a man with a good, and kind heart, his family loved him unconditionally.
