Norman “Boy” Garfield Dawes Jr. 56, of Crow Agency went home to be with the Lord and Savior November 30, 2018 at St. Vincent with his love ones by his side.
“Spock” as he was affectionately known was born Dec. 25,1961 to Norman and Venetta Avonne Other Medicine Dawes Sr. Born and raised in Crow Agency. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and a child of Big Lodge Clan. He attended school in Crow, Pryor, Hardin and later obtaining his G.E.D.
“Spock” was an athletic man who loved the game of playing basketball. Traveling throughout Indian Country playing in many tournaments with the 1970’s Crow Hawks team, was well known for his ability to play basketball always tended to bring home awards and was an All-Star player.
He found a love for horses just like his late father. Training alongside with his lifetime friend Greg Half. Together they traveled the race horsing circuit. Spock was a proud owner of his own horse which he named B & D Shawn. Norman worked for the Crow Tribe, PAYS Livestock and held various jobs. A quiet and humble man who loved the Lord enjoyed reading his bible, sharing the word, listening to music, spending time with his family and friends.
His daughter Ashley Nowell, his parents, his adopted mother Ilene Hill, maternal and paternal grandparents preceded Norman in death.
Survivors include his companion Jannie; adopted father Lawrence (Popeye) Big Hair, his daughters Normandy (JC) Dawes, Carissa (Ross) Pretty On Top, Candace (Beraiah) Hugs, and Raquel Old Crow; son Brent Shawn Dawes and Norman (Dawes, III) Old Crow; his grandchildren whom he loved dearly; Victor Al, Kylei Rae, Kaycei Jade, Minerva, LeDaneian, Magdalene, Beraiah, Jr., Kourtney and Donavin; Sisters Norma Jane (Gordon) Morning, Karna (Thomas) Yarlott, Jolene and Leda Rides Horse, Farrell Shortman and Mary (Thomas) Ten Bear; brothers Thomas (Cheryl), Bruce, Gary (Neva) and David Dawes, Greg (Dorcella) Half, Al (Jonnie) Big Hair, Bryson (Patricia) Rogers and Paul (Evangeline) Pryor; aunts Warlene Comes Up, Irma Jane Bird Hat, Dineen Other Medicine, Sarah House, Marie Lincoln, Georgianna Bad Bear, Ann (Ricky) Birding in Ground, Gwendolyn Plain Bull; uncles John Paul Other Medicine, Rudolph (Iva) Shane and Willie Stewart. As well as his extended family including the Other Medicine, Two Leggings, Shane, Bird in Ground, Takes Horse, Lincoln, Bird Hat, Comes Up, Greybull, Bull Tail and Passes family.
