Norman F. Red Wolf, 71, of Wyola, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning April 18th, 2018 in Advance Care Hospital in Billings, Montana.
Norman was a descendant of Mitch Bouyer, Chief Two Belly, and Chief Crazy Head of Mighty Few.
He was born March 2, 1947 in Crow Agency, Montana to Edward Red Wolf Sr. and Juanita (LaForge) Red Wolf. His Indian name (Baatchiliigish) “Hits Together” was given to him by his grandfather the late James Laforge. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth and a Greasy Mouth child. He attended Wyola Grade School, Lodge Grass High School until he was drafted into the United States Army when he was a junior in high school.
Norman served from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam era and in Korea on the DMZ with the 2nd Infantry Division (Indian Head). He worked in Los Angeles, California for the Boeing Aircraft Company. He then attended the University of Montana, Eastern Montana College, and Montana State University. He was a Montana Indian Firefighter and went on to work for the Crow Irrigation Department. Norman enjoyed the Crow hand games, playing with the Mighty Few District. He was a traditional man and participated in the Sundance, sweats and fasting.
Norman had his own traditional beliefs in the Lord. He really loved children along with his nephews and nieces. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and is survived by his granddaughters Ashley, Elisha, Tana, Benicia, Elonna, Randie, Breanna, Kylee, Kyreanna and the newest addition, Pearl; his grandsons; Lawrence III, Colton, Chase, Ronee, Tyson, Haven, Jordan, Praise, Xavier Grove. He cherished his granddaughters Krysta Lynn Plenty Hawk and Lilly Naveah Old Elk.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Survivors include Krysta Plenty Hawk and Lilly Old Elk who he took as his own, sisters Angela (RW) Stewart, Betty Blackrock pf Hollywood, CA,, Alice Smith of Fort Worth, TX, Mary Louise LaForge, Rosella Covington of Coulee Dam, WA; his brothers Allison Bouyer Sr., Gerald and Joseph Stewart, Edward Red Wolf, III, Roger Red Wolf, Eugene Smith, Myron Crooked Arm and William Medicine Crow; and his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by the Red Wolf, LaForge, Stewart, Littlenest, Crooked Arm, Grant, Small Bouyer, Gets Down Jefferson, Not Afraid and Dillon families.
Rosary will be recited at 3:00 pm Sunday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Monday in the Wyola Catholic Church. Interment will follow with military honors in the Red Wolf Family Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
