Alexandra "Sandy" Denise Medicine Horse

Alexandra “Sandy” Denise Medicine Horse, known as Kaala, was born on September 8, 1966 in Crow Agency, MT to Mary Arvilla (Big Day) Medicine Horse. She was a member of the Big Lodge and a child of the Piegan clan. She was raised by her grandpas, Alex, Sr. and Henry Big Day.  Sandy grew up in the St. Xavier area and went to Pretty Eagle School.  In her high school years, she went to Plenty Coups High School in Pryor and graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1984.  Sandy went to United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, ND and got her certificate in Business Clerical in 1986.  She received her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in 2004.

Sandy worked for the Crow Tribe and the BIA, and was a dispatcher for the BHC Sheriff’s office, and also was a cashier for Flying J’s and Love’s.  She most recently enjoyed working as a Door Dash driver.  She was Door Dash of the month in December 2023 and April 2024.

Sandy was from Hardin, MT but made her home in Billings, MT.  She loved all of her 18 grandkids, who meant the world to her.  Everywhere she went, she had her grandson Rick James with her; he was her PIC.

She was preceded in death by her mother, brothers, sister, baby boys and grandpas.

Sandy is survived by her daughters, Delray (Buckley), Marcella (John), son, Calvin (Kayla), grandsons, Jeremiah, Justin, Isaiah, Demitri, Malakai, Tyler, Jay, Calvin, Jr., Rick James, granddaughters, Nevaeh, Brianna, Victoria, Zaryn, Jazmiria, Maliya, Kimora, Scarlett, PresLee, Winona, adopted granddaughters, Jaylynn Not Afraid and Kaidee Dust, great-grandson, Ja’Kyrie, sisters, Donna Jean, Geraldine, Carlotta, and adopted brother, Greg Half.

Extended family include Big Day, Medicine Horse, Bullinsight, Ball, Deer Nose, Hill, Passes, Mountain Sheep, House, Old Elk, Stewart, Blaine, High Hawk, Good Horse, Crow Good Voice, Yellow Cloud, Black Eagle, Cloud, Not Afraid, Onion, Big Hair, Walks, Black Hair, Morrison, Two Leggings, Goes Ahead, and the families of John Cummins, Helen Iron, Caplett and Half.  Alexandra’s family is very large; we apologize if we left out any names.
