Gay Deputee Obituary

Gay Lynn (Wright) Deputee, wife of Collin Deputee, Sr. and mother to Collin Dale, Jr. and Royce Robert passed away March 15, 2024, after a long illness and hospitalization in Billings, Montana.

Gay was 69 years young, born April 1, 1954, in Riverside, California to SSGT John S. Wright and Marilyn M. Berner.  Gay was a military brat and lived all over Europe wherever her father was stationed; of all the places she lived and went to school Germany was her favorite.

Gay was a legal secretary when she met the love of her life Collin Dale Deputee, Sr. at a powwow in Kissimmee, Florida which was arranged by Collin’s brother Wayne Deputee.  Gay heard recorded songs of Collin’s singing and wanted to meet him.  When they met, they fell in love and were married in Sheridan, Wyoming and later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in Utah.  They began their family in the Wolf Mountains and brought two beautiful sons into the world named Collin Dale, Jr. and Royce Robert.

Gay was an exceptionally brave and intelligent woman who braved the wilds of the Wolf Mountains to become a pioneer wife who learned to do everything from scratch.  She raised chickens, made exceptional dried meat, wove shawls, chopped wood, hauled water, raised two sons, and was a great backup singer for her husband’s singing group the Wolf Mountain Singers.

Gay was a beautiful soul with an infectious laugh and a warmth that brought joy to all around her.  She had a knack for looking at the bright side and finding the humor in life.

Gay loved her family very, very much and her pride and joy was her grandson Robert Royce Deputee, Jr.  He made her laugh and brought much light to her life. Gay was loved dearly by the Deputees and all who knew her.  She will be deeply missed, but we know that we will be together forever again one day.

“We know that Spirit Matter is energy and energy cannot be destroyed as death is not our nature and beyond the veil they live eternally, waiting for us to join them forever more.”
