Robert “Bob” Peter Standish passed away on September 28, 2020 in Billings, Montana. He was born May 1, 1984 in Watford City, North Dakota to Leroy Standish, Sr. and Frances Wallace. He was a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes and a member of the Big Lodge Clan and child of Big Lodge and on his father’s side was a member of the Knife Clan. He often accompanied his mother to the Baptist Church in Lodge Grass. He attended school in Fort Smith and Mandaree and earned his GED. He attended college at Little Big Horn College and MSU-Billings. While attending MSU-B, he served as president of the Native American Club. Bob worked a variety of jobs to fund his college education. As a young man, he danced traditional and loved to participate in powwows throughout Indian Country. He was dedicated to his workout routine.
Bob was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing this pastime with his nephews. He was a boxer and competed in the ring for a period of time. He was a generous man who was willing to help anyone in need. He had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh. He valued his family and made special efforts to keep up on all family member’s activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Leroy Standish, Jr. and Patrick Birdinground and his sister Jodi Standish.
Bob is survived by his sons Leighton and Kenai Standish; brothers Galvin, Norman, Thornton and Martin Standish; his sisters Candice, Christina and Cheryl Standish and his many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Wednesday September 30th at 2:00 pm, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Only ten people at a time and masks must be worn at all times in the building.
A wake will be held October 1, 2020, at the Water Chief Hall in Mandaree, North Dakota beginning at 5:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on October 2, 2020, at the Water Chief Hall with burial following in the Independence Cemetery east of Mandaree. His senior pallbearer is Mary Yellow Wolf-Gachupin. Pallbearers are Nathaniel Castro, Andrew Wallace, Cyrus Stewart, Robin Smith, Hayden Standish and Kevin Three Irons.
