Theresa Louise Plenty Hoops, “Biawaaxpaash,” (Medicine Woman), 72, of Hardin, passed away suddenly at her home in Hardin, Montana on the morning of May 26, 2020.
She was born Theresa Louise Aragon on November 22, 1948 in Lander, Wyoming to Lucinda Susie Aragon.
She grew up on the Wind River Indian Reservation in her youth and received her education at Bozeman High School in 1966.
She married her husband Pistol Plenty Hoops in Hardin Montana in December of 1967 where their union bore their four children Audrey, Garland, Vashti Dawn, and Dustin Chad Plenty Hoops.
Theresa was adopted in the Apsaalooke way by Agnes Old Bear, who gave her the Crow name, Biawaaxpaash, meaning, Medicine Woman in the Crow Language.
She was a member of the Big Lodge Clan as well as a child of the Greasy Mouth.
Theresa was a very avid participant in the Sweat Lodge Ceremony and looked forward to the summers when she would attend the annual Crow-Shoshone Sun Dance with her family.
Throughout her life, Theresa was employed in the Indian Health Services Surgery Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Crow Tribal Court System.
Theresa’s most honored and cherished persons were her two great-granddaughters, Hazel Layne Plenty Hoops and Mahalz Theresa Plenty Hoops of Fort Washakie, Wyoming.
She is preceded in death by her mother Lucinda, her husband, Pistol, and her adopted son Randy Not Afraid, her grandparents Pete and Lucy (Hereford) Aragon, great grandparents Jesús and Juanita Aragon, John and Julia Hereford.
She is survived by her sisters Zelma Robertson, Roylance Aragon, Betty Glick, and Janet Beck. Her daughters: Audrey Plenty Hoops of Fort Washakie WY, and Vashti Dawn Plenty Hoops of Crow Agency, Montana, and her sons: Garland Plenty Hoops of Hardin, Montana, Dustin Chad Plenty Hoops of Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Her adopted Crow sisters Frances Pretty Paint, Lavina Passes, Lydia Bird In Ground, Laura Real Bird, Debbie Passes, Melvina Dawes, Joyce Moccasin, Colleen Old Elk, Lucy Long, Lois (Jerome) White Hip, Valarie Packs The Hat, Donna Howe, Suzy Couture, Lori, Roberta, Te-atta, and Gustine Old Bear. Her beloved kids that she raised Julie (Not Afraid) Cummins, Mike Not Afraid, Bradford Heath, Kari Bird, Cleve Spang, Jarad Armajo, Shilo Amyotte, Randy Not Afraid, Harold Big Lake, Eugene “Aspen” Brugh, Sharon Small, and Annie Beth Real Bird.Her beloved grandchildren Vashti Fitzpatrick, Ote Burley, Ty-Bailey Lane, Pistol Wyleen, Chandler Levi, Clint James, Baylor Shad, Tuck Rozz, and her great-grandchildren Hazel Layne and Mahalz Theresa. She leaves behind her numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews including Maymie Yellow Tail, Natalie Stewart-Colliflower, Shannon Howe, Burney White Clay, Juno Plenty Hawk, Gerlinda Morrison, Ashley Passes, Lu Old Coyote, Brian Plenty Hoops, and Angie Spotted Horse.

A viewing will be held Friday May 29th, at the Hugo White Clay Church in Black Lodge and burial will be at her childhood home in Fort Washakie, Wyoming.
