Coretta Fighter passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020. She was born to Loretta Bird and James Wood. Coretta was adopted and raised by her grandmother, Nora Fighter. She grew up in the St. Xavier, Montana area.
She attended school and graduated eighth grade at Pretty Eagle Catholic School. After graduating eighth grade, she went on to attend school at Chemawa Indian School in Oregon.
She loved to be with family and friends. Most of all, she loved being with her grandchildren, who she adored.
She is preceded in death by her mother; brother John Fighter; granddaughter Isabella Redding; grandparents Nora Fighter and Richard Bird; she is a descendant of Pretty Eagle, Bird, Bompard, Fighter, He Does It, Don’t Mix, Hugs, Big Hair, Good Horse and Smart Enemy Wood family of New Mexico.
She is survived by her dad James Wood of New Mexico; her children Kevannah, Cheryl, Kyla, and Nathaniel; her grandchildren Kasey, Deejay, Natalie, Selene, Calliope and Regina; sisters Nina (David) Big Man ,Cheryl (Levi) Yellowmule, Bertha (Lagrant) Black Eagle, Adree (Barry) Whiteman and Jodeci Wood; brothers Adrian Bird, Sr., Miles (Rochelle) Fighter and Jodyle Wood, aunt Virginia Poyer, grandmothers Erma Jane (Wayne) Moccasin and Mary Helen Medicine Horse. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.
Our family would also like to thank the Billings Clinic for doing all they could for Coretta. Also, please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone in our time of grief.
