Eileen Hays passed away on December 11, 2019.
Minnie Eileen Crosby Hays was born August 29, 1923. She was the sixth of eight children to George and Minnie (Packard) Crosby. She grew up in Toluca, Montana where the kids would flag down the train to get to school in Hardin. She graduated from Hardin High School in 1942 and then attended one year at Normal School (Eastern Montana College) where she attained her teaching certificate. Beaver Creek School hired her and provided room and board with the J.C. Gamble Family. Here she met and married Winford Hays on July 3, 1944. Their first year of marriage was spent in Livingston where he worked for the railroad. Ranching called so they moved to his property on Horse Creek located between Hardin and Hysham. Here they ranched, expanded and raised their family.
Eileen spent many years as a 4-H leader in the home economic fields. She was always available to teach and counsel people of all ages. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and always found knitting to be therapeutic during trying times. After retiring, she alternated time in both Billings and Port Aneles, Washington. While in Washington she was co owner of a yarn store where, as usual, she found herself in a teaching position. Surrounding herself with people was simply her way of life.
Early in 2015 she retired to Hardin and lived at Heritage Acres Retirement facility. On Easter of 2019 she fell causing damage that required moving to a nursing facility in Sheridan, Wyoming where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, all seven siblings, her husband and an infant son.
She is survived by her daughters Nettie (Dave) Hage, and Margie (Larry) Tritschler; grandchildren Shawn (Chevi) Hage, Warren (Marilynn) Tritschler, Becki (Matt) Orell, Lea (Robert) Herren, Sara Olvera, Terri Tritschler and Seneca Tritschler and 15 great grandchildren
