Obituary

Alvin Pretty on Top, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2021 in Wyola, Montana. He was born February 15, 1980 to Manuel and Linda (Flat Mouth) Pretty on Top in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was a member of the Bad War Deeds Clan and a child of the Piegan. His Indian name Bishée Heeléen iíwiishish (Raised among Buffalo) was given to him by his grandmother Gail Morrison Red Wolf. He was raised in the Wyola area on the Little Horn Road and graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1998.

Alvin was an outdoor man and loved to hunt in the Big Horns, the Wolfs and up the Little Horn Canyon. At the age of 4 he began fishing with his uncle Garland. Fishing was a lifelong passion. During those fishing trips with his uncle, he spoke only Crow . He was a fluent Crow speaker and only when he began school did he learn English. Alvin also was fluent in Spanish and the Cheyenne language. Alvin was competitive , talented and very sharp minded always alert to the world around him. He challenged himself to always be the best at whatever he did. Alvin loved horses and was an excellent horseman competing in Indian Relay and breaking and training horses. He was a generous man always ready to help those around him. An example of his generosity, was allowing his brother to run his cattle on Alvin’s land without any compensation. He loved his nieces and nephews and was the very best uncle any kid could have.

When Alvin was in the 7th grade at the Ranchester Middle School, he participated in basketball. His dad told him that he would give him a dollar for every successful free throw but if he missed the deal was over. During a game with Holy Name in Sheridan, he made 15 free throws and when he released the last shot he pointed at this dad with a big smile. As soon as the game was over he rushed up to his dad and with his hand out. His dad had only a $20 bill and didn’t have change, Alvin grabbed the bill and said “this is good enough” The deal was off for the rest of the season, it was too expensive.
