Anthony "Tony" Sumner Davis, Sr.

Anthony "Tony" Davis, Sr. Obituary

Anthony Sumner Davis Sr., 73, of Billings, Montana, passed away on January 24, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends at Billings Clinic. Anthony was born on December 18, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, to Samuel and Angelica Davis. Later in life, he attended school in La Puente, California, and graduated from Fontana High School in May of 1970.

In the summer of 1970, Anthony made his way to Montana with his Uncle John Davis. In 1971, his Aunt Madeline came up to hold a farewell party for him when he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Following his military service, Anthony became a BIA Officer, worked as a heavy equipment operator, and was very proud to have helped build the Cut Across from Crow to St. Xavier and from St. Xavier to Pryor. He also worked as a wildland firefighter and a ditch rider.

Anthony was well known for his love of cooking. The way you could smell and taste the love and care he put into every meal he prepared. In 1991, he met the love of his life, Alma Bad Bear. They were married on July 18, 1992. Anthony was a devoted protector and provider, a man who deeply loved his family.

Growing up, Anthony enjoyed Sundance, powwows, hand games, and sweat lodge. He valued culture, community, and connection.Together, Anthony and Alma raised and loved many children. His children include: Kateri, Emily, Anthony (Siobahn), Mario (Brittany), Tillie, Ty Round Face, and sons Dewey  Brandon, Randy, and Adrian Bear Don’t Walk; Weston, Scotty and Seth Badbear.  Daughters (Girl-Girl), Tania, Christina Bear Don’t Walk, Alicia (Gabe) Stewart, Ashley (Colton) Louthain, Ariel (Nathanial) Deputee, Cameron, Camille, Vivian Falls Down, Raye Dawn Wallace, Tamra, Trey Turnsplenty, Leo and Angel Goes Ahead, Yasway Plainbull, Boo Boo, Chia Montclair, Valeena Good Luck, Candace, Mariah and Dominic Eastman, all of Wilma Howe Brien’s children and grandchildren. All together, Anthony and Alma were blessed with 19 God-children.

He was a proud grandfather to: Jade, Garret, Lucious, Saphire, Luna, Wesley, Marcus, Isabella, Mason, Antonio, Shakisha, Jaysha, Naveah, Ahmie, Kymoni, Nox, Oscar, Elianna, Tynel, Caleb, Colton Jr, Mateo, Johnathan, Tess, Logan, Fural, JoyAnn, Gunner, Rider, Mac, and Rain, Daien, Tyan, Ariella Grace, McKinzley “Cha-Cha,” Mireya, Adonis, Maddox, Jaxon, Marley, and McKinley.  BirdinGround and Springfield kids. Siblings: Adam, Cookie, John, Larry, Sammy, Niena, Kenny, Janet, and Melinda Davis. Rosella, Sidney Gean Eastman, Oliver (Diane) BearDontWalk III, Francis, Clara, Charlene, Laurie Alden, Joselyn (Clarence) Three Irons, Anita (Dana) Old Coyote, Neta (Lance) Old Elk, Vanessa (Jobo) BirdInGround, Beth (Earl) Old Chief, Kathy Haun and Dale BirdInGround.

 

Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved grandchildren Baby David and Crooked Arm Baby, Abree Amyotte, His parents, Adopted Parents, adopted father, Mac Badbear and by his brother Perry Davis Jr, adopted siblings Dewey Bear Don’t Walk Sr., Alvin and Joseph Alden Jr, and Moses “Buddy” Amber “Lavonne” Tall Bear, Daphne “Amajean” Alden. Robert Bugsy Springfield. Anthony was also blessed with many loving adopted parents: Joseph & Ruth Alden Sr., Oliver & Clara Bear Don’t Walk Jr, Kenneth & Theresa Han, David & Lenora Turnsplenty, Bonnie Little Nest, Clifford and Velma BirdInGround; brothers Ramon Antonio Pisano and Cleo Medicine Horse, Sr.

 

 

We are thankful for the many friends who became family over the years. To know Tony was to know the love he carried in his heart for everyone he crossed paths with. And the family would like to say thank you to Aspen Meadows for all the love and care you showed our husband/father, and grandfather.

 

Extended family includes the Davis, Alonso, Johnson, Little Nest, SpringFields, Dillon, Storey, Fighter, Alden, Brown, Monroe, Snell, Bear Don’t Walk, Rock Above, LaForge and Howe families, and many more. Our family is very large, please accept our apologies if we have unintentionally forgotten anyone.
