Obituary

Arleta Mae Cummins Young, 80, passed away in Billings, Montana on May 4, 2023. Arleta was born September 30, 1942 to Mary E. Cummins and Albert Lincoln in Crow Agency and later adopted by her grandparents Richard and Delia (Houle) Cummins. “Little Fire” was her Crow name, and she was a longtime resident of Lodge Grass.  She went to Lodge Grass schools.  Arleta was a God-fearing woman who served her church and community, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and accomplished homemaker who loved to sew.

Arleta is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Young, daughter, Arlene Young, grandsonTommy Boy Plenty Hawk, granddaughter, Arlene Rock and one great-grandson, Ronnie (Cricket) Enemy Hunter III, mother, Mary E. Cummins-Tobacco, (grand)parents, Richard and Delia Cummins, siblings, Elvina Backbone, Fredrick and Richard Cummins, Jr., Francis LaRance, Lucy, John Cummins, Sr., Buster, Bobby Brien, Joseph Cummins, John Takes the Horse, Jr., James LaRance, Agnes McComas,  Michael Birdinground, B. J. Backbone, Fannie, Eli Rides Horse, Conrad, Princess Stops, Ernie Stewart, Karen Sue and Walker Chad Takes Horse, Richard (Tret) Takes the Horse, Dayle Ellen Cuny, Antone Red Thunder, Mervin Eastman, grandson and niece, Esther Takes the Horse.

She is survived by her her daughters, Lavea Plenty Hawk-Castro (Johnny), Delana “Dede” Rock, Jessie (Myron) Plenty Hawk, adopted son, James (Mary) Bennett and Rev. Dan Jacobs, grandchildren, William, Jan, Savannah and Delana Springfield, David and Nathaniel Castro, Elijah Lee Rock, Leland Delano Rock II, Francis Luke Plenty Hawk Rock, Ivan Zack Rock, Delano Wallace, Kyle, Todd (Jessica), Marty and Arlene Plenty Hawk, many great grandchildren; her siblings, Jean (Paul) St. Germaine, Tommy (Mildred) Carpenter, Josie, Bonnie, Russel Wallace, Bill (Pamela) Backbone, Shirley (Joe) Kristufek, Lucy, James (Henrietta) Takes the Horse, Marlene (Dwight) Stewart, Karolyn Lee, Sam and Sarah Mae Takes Horse, Marty, Joey Cummins, Harold Brien, Ronald Eastman, and Mary Muhlenburg, and many nieces and nephews including Melissa Arleta and Babydoll Carpenter.
