Cathryn "Tudy" Schindler, 97, went to her heavenly home on May 19, 2025. There she was embraced by God and her large family with open arms. She was our sparkle, not only because of her sparkly jewelry, but because of her love, laughter, and devotion to her family and friends.
She was born in Hardin to William and Anna Gress on March 3, 1928. She lived and worked in various jobs cooking, waitressing, and bartending around Hardin. Everyone who knew her, loved her, and always had a good laugh with her. She was the Queen of wit and humor, jokes, and stories. She always had a good one to tell. We still remember her sayings that give a good laugh.
Tudy was “Grandma Tudy” to everyone. She loved and treated them as family, regardless of whether they were related or not, giving doilies, jewelry, trinkets, scrubbies, and most importantly a piece of her heart. She loved to visit with everyone because she was so personable.
She was a great cook and her beautiful crocheted tablecloths, doilies, snowflakes, and many other works of art were admired by all. She also took pride in her yard and had beautiful flowers blooming in every season, many coming from Ma Gress’s yard.
She was a woman of faith. She went to the St. Xavier Catholic Mission School and her devotion to God was unwavering, receiving holy communion each Sunday until her passing. She is happy to be in God’s hands. Her sparkle is now our beacon of light.
She is survived by her sister Frances Burnett, sons Steve (Rose), Jeff (Debra) Schindler, daughter-in-law Vivian Small, grandchildren Justin (Angie) Schindler, Marti (Mike) Caywood, Taylor (Dena) Schindler, Kara (Jeff) Alexander, Kelly (Katie), Kyle (Megan) Schindler, Stacey Propp, Casey Schindler, Misty (Cody) Alghren, and Tony Schindler. Also there are many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews too numerous to mention.
Cathryn was preceded in death by her sons Gary and Ricky Schindler, and brothers and sisters John, George, Peter, Anton, Gustina, Willie, Emanual, Barbara, Benny, Eva, Frank, Mike, John, Annie, Rosie, Margaret, Robert, and Marcus Gress.
She leaves us with a smile and a sparkle, always by our side and in our hearts.
Cathryn's family would like to give a big thank you to family and friends for all of their support and the Big Horn Hospital and Awe Kualawaache Care Center for their excellent care.
