Cleo "Spike" Medicine Horse, III Obituary

Cleo “Spike” Medicine Horse III, 47, of Crow Agency, Montana, reunited with his father on December 3, 2023. He was born September 1, 1976, in Crow Agency, Montana. He is the son of Cleo, Jr. and Barbara Medicine Horse.  His Indian name, Deaxkaàsh shikàakash, Eagle Boy, was given him by Mae Morning House.  He was a Ties the Bundle and child of the Big Lodge clan.

Spike was raised in the Crow Agency area. He attended Crow Agency and Pretty Eagle schools and graduated from Hardin High School in 1995. During his high school athletic career, Spike was a 2x state cross country champion and a 1995 state basketball champion. After high school, Spike continued his education at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota where he received his AAS degree in Construction Technology in 2002. After graduating, he worked at United Tribes in the maintenance department for five years. He returned home and worked as a heavy equipment operator at the Sarpy Coal Mine.

Spike’s love for horses started at a young age, from galloping, jockeying, and training race horses with his father Cleo, traveling to numerous racetracks around the region and carrying on the legacy of Medicine Horse Racing. He also loved helping and being a part of the Indian relay. He was a member of the Blanket Bull relay team.  Spike had a friendly personality and made friends wherever he went.

Spike married Shannon Laducer in the spring of 1997 and from this union they were blessed with three children; Kasey, Shalana, and Jayden.

One of his greatest joys was being a papa to Kighlynn, Gage, Harper, Hazen, Kinley, and was very excited about having two more grandbabies on the way.
