Earl Birdhat, Jr. Obituary

Earl Fred Birdhat Jr., 65, was also known as “Boy”, his Crow name was “Ih’aako e’hche  bilaxpa’a ke scheeh” (establish himself far off elsewhere) given to him by Richard Real Bird. Boy was a member of the Peigan clan and was a Ties the Bundle child. He was born on October 17, 1958 in Crow Agency to Fred Birdhat and Mary Mae Big Day. His paternal grandparents were Phillip Birdhat and Anna Woodtick Birdhat; maternal grandparents Henry and Sara Ball Big Day.

Earl met his beloved wife, Lorretta Tom, at Crow Fair in 1977 and shortly thereafter moved to Reno, Nevada together. From childhood, Boy was raised by his older sisters Monica and Alee Birdhat.  He attended school at St. Charles Mission School, Edgar, Pretty Eagle Catholic and Garfield, where he earned his GED. Boy was a hard worker, hustling while in school as a bus boy, dishwasher, furniture maker and other side jobs. He ultimately pursued a career in truck driving and received his certification in California. He worked for Truck companies including Swift and Sarpy Coal Mine.

Earl enjoyed reading the Bible and he designed from fabric, beads and feathers miniature Indian war horses; a one-of-a-kind design.
