George Dorn Sr., lifelong resident and North Valley farmer of Hardin, Montana passed away peacefully Monday, November 13, 2023 at the age of 97. George was born on January 31,1926 to Henry and Mary Dorn. He grew up on the family farm Northwest of Hardin while receiving his education in Hardin. After high school George enlisted in the Army, serving as a sergeant and impromptu German translator. He was a proud member of the Second Armored Division "Hell on Wheels" in the European Theater. George was honorably discharged in 1952 following his time in Korea. His time in the military service was a highlight of his life, giving him many stories to tell for years and years. When he returned to Big Horn County he married the love of his life, Martha Schneider, on December 21, 1952. The couple farmed both in South and North Valleys and made their home in the North Valley where they were happily married for 68 years. This strong union was blessed with three children, Donna, George, Jr. and Roger Dorn. George raised sugar beets for over 60 years and Angus Cattle was also a passion of his. George lived his days getting his hands in the dirt and loved every minute of being a farmer, and a producer in the agriculture way of life. He enjoyed taking drives out North or South Valley to see the crops, stopping along the way to have a cup of coffee with friends, always sharing a great story or memory and always a good laugh. He was lifelong member of the E&R Church of Hardin, Montana. He enjoyed seeing his family, friends and neighbors and love to get together for a drink or good conversation. You never left George without a smile on your face. He was the best dad, grandpa and teacher in the world whom we will miss terribly, but we will all remember his contagious laugh.
He is preceded in death by his wife Martha Schneider Dorn, his parents Henry and Marie Dorn; brothers Henry, Carl and a twin brother (died as an infant); sisters Martha Wagner and Marie Jobs, his grandson Ty Dorn.
