Janet Stevens, lifelong resident of Lodge Grass Montana, passed away peacefully on December 1st, surrounded by her children after a long battle with cancer. She was born on September 5, 1935, to Luther and Lillian (Erickson) Chatham; she grew up on her family ranch on Rotten Grass. She attended Antler School on Rotten Grass Creek until the eighth grade and then graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1953.
On April 29, 1956, she married the love of her life Clarence “Mick” Stevens, and they started their life on the family ranch on Lodge Grass Creek before his passing in April of 2003. In the time that they shared together they raised four children, Debbie, Carolyn, Susan, and Michael.
She had several things she loved doing but being a ranch wife was her passion. For 68 years she cooked meals for brandings and gatherings, many of the cowboys enjoyed her home cooked meals and a good glass of iced tea. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, gardening, embroidering, collecting dolls, watching the cooking channel, and listening to music, Alan Jackson and Charlie Pride being some of her favorites to listen to but anything classic country was always a good go to for her. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence “Mick”, parents Luther and Lillian, siblings Richard and Barbara, grandson Cleve, granddaughter Andrewanna.
Survived by children Debbie Doane Stevens, Carolyn (Andy) Vanhorn, Susan (David) Old Elk, Michael (Lisa) Stevens. Grandchildren Shannon (Wes) Fladland, Justin (Sue) McCleary. Miles (Millie) McCleary, Lacey (JT) Gibbons, Lexi, Lisa, Andrew VanHorn, Megan (Greg) Davies, Amanda (Cache) Anderson, Whitney (Max) Schneider, Amber (Will) Downs, Rachel (Whitney) Schneider, Colton (Codi) Stevens, Wyatt (Daralynn) Stevens, Elena (Chase) Demery, Heidi (Tom) White Clay, several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday December 5th at Bullis Mortuary in Hardin at 11 am, burial to follow at Lodge Grass Cemetery.
