Obituary

Lansing John Dreamer was born March 12, 1959, in Crow Agency, Montana to the late Mortimer S. Dreamer and Deanna Dreamer Doyle.  Lansing crossed over to the other side camp on August 7, 2023 in Billings, Montana.  Lansing was given his Indian name “His Drum is Well Known” by Warren Bear Cloud.  He was a member of the Big Lodge and child of Whistling Water.  He was baptized at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, in Washington, D.C. on April 14, 1990.

Lansing received his early education in Crow Agency, Montana, Grand Coulee, Washington and Mclean, Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Media and Theatre Arts and his Master’s Degree in Native American Studies from Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana.

Lansing was married to Shelly Marie Howard in Mclean, Virginia in 1985; they were later divorced. From this union they had two children, a daughter Dakota Marie Dreamer and a son Daniel Menferd Dreamer.

Lansing was a Construction Superintendent for Fisher Construction in Annandale, Virginia prior to relocating home to Montana in 1994. He then pursued his higher education, graduating from Montana State University in 2000 as a Cinematographer.  During his career he had many experiences filming on such films as “The Horse Whisperer”, “The Highline” , “A Day out with Gordy”, “The World Champion Dancers” and too many others to name, all of these experiences included travel to Peru, Chile, Columbia and the Gulf of Mexico on the documentary the “2004 Deep Water Gulf Tour”, he was awarded the “Honoring Native Americans for Outstanding Achievements in the Performing Arts” in 1996.

Lansing was introduced to the Sundance by the late Larson Medicine Horse in 2008; fulfilling his role in being pierced four times, he continued to be a Sundance helper when always called upon. Larson’s introduction of the Sundance to Lansing was invaluable to him and an experience he always considered an honor and a blessing to be a part of.

Lansing left Bozemon in 2005 after his father passed to take his turn in taking care of his mother.  His love of the Big Horn Mountains, fishing the Big Horn River, and many more shenanigans with his side-kick and brother Gary Whiteman are too many to mention, they were truly each others’ best buddies.

His love for his nieces and nephews, Shannon Dreamer, Matt Stops, Maria and Babe Snell, Jersey Bay Flores, LeiNani Stops, Kayden, Khloe, Crystal, and Boy Bullshows was truly a beautiful relationship to witness and be a part of; actually all children held a special place in his heart, he truly loved his all his families children.

Lansing was preceded in death by his father, Mortimer S. Dreamer, his children’s mother, Shelly Howard, his paternal grandparents Gilbert “Burdett” and Edith Birdinground, his maternal grandparents John and Florence Doyle, his adoptive mother Deana “Pee-wee” Medicine Horse Laforge, brothers Larson Medicine Horse, Patrick “Little Pat” Doyle, Uncles Pat, Thurlow, and Charles Doyle, Menferd Birdinground, Thurlow Birdinground, John “Big John” Fitzpatrick; Aunts, Beldean Benecker, and Agnes Birdinground.
