With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we regret to inform you: our beloved brother Larry Kindness, Jr. passed away in his home in October, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Larry, Jr. was born on February 13, 1963 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky to the young proud parents of the late Larry Kindness, Sr. and Cheryl Ann Frost Kindness. Larry, Sr was in the Army at this time and was stationed in the area. Larry, Jr would live the first two years of his life between Kentucky and Tennessee before returning to Fort Smith and eventually Billings, Montana.
Larry, Jr was a natural born athlete. He loved all sports and being outdoors. He loved camping and fishing, but baseball was his love. As a young boy he spent many days playing at North Park with his cousin Jimmy Kindness, Jr. and all the neighborhood boys. He was a star player on his little league team. He was well liked by his teammates, coaches and teachers at the North Park Elementary. Larry, Jr. excelled in all subjects at North Park, tho his absolute favorite was mathematics and was totally gifted when it came to numbers and words. He placed 1st in the school spelling bee and 4th in the New Mexico State Spelling Bee at the age of 11. In 1972 his mother made the decision to leave Billings and move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She fell in love with this city and the diversity and eventually pursued her nursing degree. While raising Larry, Jr., Renae and Sherri, at first it was a huge reality shock to Larry- he missed his friends, cousins and his way of life there on the north side of Billings. As the years rolled on he began to realize that mom was teaching him to be independent and how to survive on his own. He landed his first job at 16 years old. He worked for Winchell’s Donuts for six years and scored his first apartment at 19 years of age. He also realized that “Change” wasn’t that bad and he too loved the city of Albuquerque and would return to Montana only to visit, usually in the the summer and Crow Fair.
Larry, Jr. was a natural born hustler who would often work the New Mexico State Fair with one of the vendors. He also loved “The Pit” and the pow wow’s and any other events going on. The flea markets were another gold mine for him. Larry, Jr. loved his money and could save it like nobody else in our family.
Larry, Jr. was a very humble soul and had a very compassionate heart, soft spoken, quiet, wise, good positive advice and the best listener you could possibly wish for. He truly would give you the shirt off his back! He loved board games, mathematics or anything to with numbers. He loved music - especially his “Era” the 70’s and 80’s and if you knew Larry, Jr you already know: Elvis Presley was is hero! Elvis was in his soul.. life Father, like Son LOL
Larry had an amazing personality, a heart of golden his sense of humorous like none other. He loved his family very deeply. He hated drugs and alcohol and never touched a drop of booze or drugs in his entire life, yet never judged anybody who struggles with these demons. He disliked drama and gossip. He was one of the friendliest guys you’d have the pleasure of running into. Nothing but good vibes. He absolutely loved and believed in the Lord. He knew the Bible very well.
Larry, Jr. you are truly loved and greatly missed. This life needs more compassionate good hearted genuine souls such as yours! Now you are with mom and dad. No more pain! When I got the call you died was the worst day of my life and I am so sorry I wan’t there with you. A few days later I realized that the strength you were, God given and blessed with, was given to me…. It’s the only thing that pulls me thru the bad days and tough times we are living. I love you Larry, Jr. My Big Brother- And you are greatly missed!! Your Sis, Renae
