Lee Wilson Obituary

Archie Lee Wilson, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, cowboy, roper, golfer and pilot passed away on June 15, 2024.  Lee was born to Archie and Ruth Wilson on January 9, 1934, in Hysham Montana. He received his education in St. Xavier, Hardin High School, and Montana State University in Bozeman.  After graduating from high school and a summer of helping on the family ranch he began his service to his country in the US Army. In December 1953 he married the love of his life Darlene Richmond in Hardin. Darlene joined him in Alabama where he completed his service in the army. After the army he attended Montana State University in Bozeman. In 1958 he returned to the ranch on Sarpy Creek, where he began his lifetime career as an outstanding cattleman and rancher. He was a small aircraft pilot for many years.  Lee enjoyed traveling the country and participating in team ropings.  In 1984 he qualified for the National Senior Rodeo Finals in Amarillo, Texas. (He took 3rd place) After retiring from ranching, for the next 25 years he and Darlene became snowbirds. He became an avid golfer.

Lee was a school board member for 11 years, a director and a president of the PCA board for 16 years, a member of the Treasure County Tax Appeal Board for 20+ years.  A member of the USTRC Ropers Association, the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association, the Fort Custer Golf Course in Hardin, the Forsyth Country & Golf Club in Forsyth.

Lee and Darlene had 4 children: Connie (Dave) McNaney, Karen (Jim) Larson, Doug (Sandy) Wilson, Leslie (Jay) Murnion. They had 8 grandchildren: Brian (Laini) McNaney, Brenda McNaney, Jamie (Morgan) Irish, Ty (Annie) Larson, Sean Wilson, Raegen Lange, Kendall Lange, and Ridge Murnion. And 5 great grandchildren: Hannah, Kate, Aubree, TC, and Brooks.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, parents Archie and Ruth Wilson, parents-in-law Frances and Ron Richmond, brothers-in-law Gordon DeVore and Leroy Richmond.

Lee is survived by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sister Jeanie DeVore and sister-in-law Carol Richmond.

A memorial service will be held July 10 at 1:30 at Bullis Mortuary in Hardin, Montana.
