Michael Bear Claw, Sr. Obituary

Michael Dee Bear Claw Horn, of Lodge Grass, Montana made his journey to the other side camp on March 5, 2024 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Montana.  His Indian name was Ak Xal’ushish Crow Scout Runner given to him by Thomas Hill.  He was born on January 29, 1964.  His mom was Roseline Old Bear and his father was Darrell Bright Wings, Sr.  He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and child of the Whistling Water clan. He was a faithful member of the Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church.

Michael attended McKinley Elementary School and graduated from the Wyola Elementary School.  He attended Lodge Grass High School where he participated in basketball.  He later received his GED and went on to attend Haskell Indian Nations University and United Tribes Technical College and studied carpentry.  Michael worked as a general laborer and worked for the Crow Tribe AML program for several administrations starting with the White Hip Administration.  He had the great experience of working with a fishing vessel crew in Alaska.  He worked as a security guard for the Not Afraid Administration.  Most recently he worked as a laborer for a local company in Hardin.  Wherever Michael worked he would put his heart into his job. Michael was raised by his great grandparents Sam and Mary Ann Horn, grandmother Joann Horn, and great uncle Forest Horn.  The Ranch Way of Life was what made Michael the happiest.  Recalling crazy stories about family members and laughing with family was the greatest enjoyment for him.  Michael could outwork any ranch hand.

The greatest of his gifts was his love for his family.  His daughters looked up to him as their hero and protector.  His Grandma Joan named him after Michael the Archangel and he lived up to that name.  Michael was fiercely protective of family members and would defend his loved ones against any threat without fear. Michael was a loving Dad, Brother, Uncle, Son and Friend.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Laura Jean HeDoesIt; son, Waylan Bear Ground, granddaughter, Kurtlynn Iron; great grandparents Samuel and Mary Ann Horn; grandparents Henry and Mary Brightwings, Joann Horn, Francis Bear Claw, Forest and Violetta Horn and Jacalyn and Bernadette Bear Claw; aunties Irene Hill, Juanita Stands, Joann Big Medicine, Rhoda Brightwings, Mary Horn and Susan Horn; uncle, Henry Bright Wings, Jr.; and nephews Kenny Bright Wings and Dustin Bright Wings.
