Misty Rose Old Elk

Misty Rose Old Elk, 35, of Garryowen, Montana went to be with lord on September 12, 2025. She was born in Crow Agency, Montana to the late Brenda Helen Half and the late Lyle Old Elk Sr. on May 31, 1990. She was raised by her grandparents the late Rudolph and Iva Shane Sr. She knew them as her mom and dad. Her Indian name was Baasaaneesh “One Who Takes Lead”, given to her by her great-great-grandmother Mae Childs. Misty is a member of the Piegan Clan and child of Big Lodge.

Misty grew up in Garryowen. She started her schooling at the Crow Head Start and went on to the Pretty Eagle Catholic School where she was baptized, she went on to St. Labre Catholic School and graduated from Lodge Grass High School. Misty was Reno District Princess; she grew up riding horses and playing basketball, spending time outdoors, and cherished the time she had with her family and friends. Misty was known for her big heart, quick sense of humor, and the way she always looked out for those she loved. Above all, Misty loved her family deeply. She will be remembered for the love and laughter that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She had a way of making people laugh and feel welcome wherever she went. Family was the center of her world; she was a devoted sister, auntie, and friend who always looked after her loved ones. Her faith, strong spirit, and love for her people guided her through life and will continue to inspire those who knew her.
