Oakley Other Medicine Obituary

Oakley Ann Other Medicine, a precious daughter, sister, and beloved member of a large and loving family, was born on January 19, 2026, to Gus Other Medicine and Destiny Tallwhiteman. In her short but powerful journey, Oakley brought light, strength, and love to all who knew her. On May 11, 2026, Oakley gained her wings and returned to the Creator.

Oakley was given her Crow name, Bilaaxpaak Kuluua Kuan Iluushe—“Stand in the Middle of the Crowd”—by Lizabeth Prettyontop. Her name came from a special moment when she smiled at her grandmother while surrounded by a crowd, symbolizing her happiness and the way her spirit shined brightly among the people. She belonged to the Greasy Mouth Clan, carrying both her Crow and Northern Cheyenne heritage with pride, love, and identity.

Though her time here was brief, Oakley showed incredible strength and resilience. She spent her early months in the hospital, courageously battling multiple health challenges. Through it all, she never stopped smiling. She found comfort in holding the fingers of her mom and dad, reminding everyone around her of the power of love, connection, and spirit. Her beauty, strength, and gentle presence touched many lives.

In both Crow and Northern Cheyenne ways, we remember that our children are sacred gifts, and when they journey on, they are carried home by the Creator, never alone. Oakley’s spirit lives on in the hearts of her family, and her memory will be honored in prayer, story, and the traditions of her people.

Oakley is survived by her loving parents, Gus Other Medicine and Destiny Tallwhiteman, and her siblings, June, Riley, Rocklin, Grayson, Lukiah, Gus Jr., and Adasia.

On her paternal side, she is survived by her great-grandmothers, Denine Mountainsheep and Christine Hill; aunt Valerie, uncle Dan Dan, and their children Elijah, Laura, Elias, Daniel, Curtis, Elgin, Sam, and Renita; uncle Wayne, aunt Zorana, and their children Elizabeth, JoAnn, Alex, and Jessica; aunt Tammy, aunt Nikki, and cousins Evan and Jack, Milie, Summer, Arlene, Ashley, Cactus and Toby.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Roger and Joann Stops, and Laura Fights; grandparents, John Paul and Elizabeth Ann Other Medicine; and uncles Norman, Roger, and John Jr.

Her paternal extended family includes the Other Medicine, Shane, Birdingground, Three Irons, Fitzpatrick, Joe Picket family, Cedric Black Eagle family, Pretty Paint, Hearts, and Little Swallow families.

On her maternal side, she is survived by her grandparents, Viola Biglefthand, Alvin Biglefthand, and Ron Yazzie; aunt Larissa, uncle Henry, and their children LeJo, Dominik, Eevee, Amara, and KoraMae; aunt Kelly and her children D’Angelo and Valentina; and aunt Tommy and her child Ryot.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Edwin Biglefthand and Karen Walksnice; aunt Latisha Nightwalker; brother Titan Ray; and sister Phoenix.

Her maternal extended family includes the Sooktis, Tallwhiteman, Elk Shoulder, Whitedirts, Fightingbear, and Americanhorse families.

The family sincerely apologizes if anyone was unintentionally left out, as Oakley was blessed with a large and deeply connected family on both her maternal and paternal sides.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate care team at Denver Children’s Hospital: Igor Shumskiy, Keely Manzo, Joe Capetillo-Pena, Lauren Kyle, Rita Simoens, and Jen Merrill, for the love and care they showed Oakley throughout her journey.

Oakley Ann’s life, though short, was filled with meaning. She reminded us all to smile, to hold on to one another, and to find strength even in the hardest moments. She will forever stand in the middle of the crowd—seen, loved, and never forgotten.
