Funeral services were held October 4, 2021 at the Spirit of Life Foursquare Church in Crow Agency and burial followed in the Crow Agency Cemetery.

Obituary

Paul Morning Morrison, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana. He was born on March 29, 1966 in Crow Agency the son of Darlene Morning Bixby He was raised by Dexter and Lorraine Williamson in the Crow Agency area. His Indian name Deáxkaashe báakosh (High Eagle) was given to him by Cleo Medicine Horse. He was a member of the Piegan and a child of the Piegan. Paul was affectionately known as PM. He attended various schools and graduated from Hardin High School 1985. While in high school, he excelled in wrestling, basketball, track and football. He qualified for the National Championships in wrestling. He also excelled in academics especially math. He attended college in Casper and graduated from the Denver Institute of Technology Billings with a degree in accounting.


PM loved horses and began his career as a jockey at the age of nine. He traveled throughout Canada and Indian Country as a jockey. From 1980 to the early 2000’s, he dominated the race track at the Crow Agency Arena. His riding career was ended by a tragic accident on the race track in Crow in 2004. He worked very hard to regain his strength and ability to talk undergoing a year of physical therapy. Following his recovery, he became a Born Again Christian and taught Bible Study at the Spirit of Life Four Square Church in Crow Agency for many years. He was a devote member of this church. After his recovery, he was employed by the Crow Tribe until his retirement in December of 2020. PM was a fluent and articulate Crow speaker. He often drew pictures and then wrote the story in Crow. He learned Crow tradition from his father Dexter Williamson and was a wealth of information related to Crow Tradition and Crow Stories.


He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Dexter Morning and his daughter Jasmine Morning; his mother Darlene Morning Bixby his brothers Garlon, Virgil and Melvin Paul Williamson , Joseph and John Buffalo, Morris Big Lake and his sisters Ada Horn and Olive Yarlott.


He is survived by his sons Michael Sr. and Antwone Morning, his three grandchildren, brothers Thomas Laforge, Ron and Hub Williamson, Larry (Agnes) Pretty Weasel, Al (Eunice) Takes Horse, Elmer Dean (Annie) Buffalo; his sisters LaVerne Williamson Big Hair, Senora Tushka, Melveen (Vernon Sr.) Fisher, LaVern Takes Horse, Loretta Jean Birdinground, Gloria (George) Old Elk III, Janet Maria Big Lake, Olivia, Mary and Jonella Williamson; adopted brothers Mike and Morrie Smith, Demetrio (Gene) Hernandez; his siblings Sharon (Roger) Roehl, Michelle (John) Wilson, Anita (Chad) Little Head, Nicole (John) Bowles, John and Donavan Bullinsight, Carlotta and Greg Half, Robert, Alvina, Ivan, Roberta, Thomas, Lorena, Curtis, Gordon Morning, Victoria ( Myron) Falls Down, Minerva (Mike) Tucker, Kathleen (Clinton) White Clay, Vienna (Dennis) Stewart, Theresa (Daniel) Brien, Celeste Garfield, Gary Reed, Jerry Pretty Weasel and Waylon Iron. HIs extended family includes Morrison, Williamson, Not Afraid, Yarlott, Carpenter, Medicine Crow, Iron, Humphry, Old Horn, Shane, DeCrane, Fredricks, Alden, Morring, Bulltail, Black Eagle, Hunts the Arrow, Three Irons, Hoops on the Forehead, Moccasin, Real Bird, Round Face, Big Man, Black Hawk, Bends, Denny, Stump, Jackson, Ironmaker, Bearcrane and Ten Bear. Our family is large, please accept our apology if we have not mentioned you in our time of grief.
