Pauline Flying St. Pierre left this world on July 2, 2023 with her daughter by her side in Havre, Montana. Her Cheyenne name, Motsé’eóó’e, means Sweet Medicine Woman. She was born on August 19, 1938 to Lawrence Flying and Betty Nora Big Head Man in Busby, Montana, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Busby Boarding School as well as Haskell Indian Jr. College with a degree in Dormitory Management. Later Pauline got a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Montana College.
Pauline married Ralph Howe in 1970. They had a daughter, Ruth Ann. They divorced a few years later. Pauline married Joseph St. Pierre in September of 1977 in Sheridan, Wyoming. Joseph adopted and helped raise Ruth Ann.
Pauline was an excellent cook, considered by some to be the best in the county. She spent nearly thirty years cooking at 4 B’s Restaurant in Havre, MT. She also had worked as a cook and teacher aide at Box Elder Public School. In her later years, she enjoyed perfecting her artwork in adult coloring books.
Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Betty Nora, her husband Joseph, brothers and sisters, Fenton Byrd Flying, Terri Lee Flying, Mary Jane Flying, Oliver Flying, John Paul Flying, Evelyn Flying and Ellsworth Flying, nieces Sheila Flying and Janene Flying, and nephews Fenton Stuart Flying and John Paul Flying, Jr.
Survivors include two pugs, Rocky Butler and Miley St. Pierre; her daughter Ruth Ann St. Pierre of Havre, MT; niece LaShanda Hargrove of Billings, MT; niece Cheyenne Flying of Asheville, NC; niece Eva Flying of Lame Deer, MT; nephew Matthew Flying and Aunt MaryAnn BigHead-StillSmokn of Ashland, MT.
Extended families include Bahr, Two Moons, Big Head and Turkey Legs. Please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone in our time of grief.
