Richard Amos Sees The Ground, went to the other side camp the day after his 56th birthday. Richard made his home in Billings, Montana with his wife Amy Lisa. Richard was born in Crow Agency, MT on September 19, 1969 to his parents Mckinley “Lurks” Sees The Ground and Zelda Decrane. Richard’s Indian name was Hawaadee’sh Duuxiileesh (Went to Battle far away) given to him by his grandfather, Charles Decrane.
Ritchie grew up in Crow Agency alongside his siblings Mckinley, Gladys Ann and Velda Rose. You would never see Ritchie alone; he’d always be with his Decrane brothers from Pryor or his Brown brothers from Dunmore running amuck. He would play basketball until dark, participated in youth boxing and was introduced to his first love for horses by riding around with his brothers which then led to jockeying for the Bad Bear, Alden and Left-Hand families. In middle school is where he began his 20-year reign as masquerade champion. Often being referred to as the “Champion of Champions.” Ritchie graduated from St. Labre Catholic School in 1987. He played basketball and ran cross country.
Rich married Edina Oniveros in 1991, and from this union they gave Omney Mae Rose her first batch of siblings. Junior, Levi and Miranda. In 2006, Rich married Amy Lisa at the Chapel of the Bells in Las Vegas. Larkin and April Chandler witnessed this joyous event. From this union, Omney Rose was given her second batch of siblings. Raeanna, Cher, Isaac and Caleb with Scotty Joe completing the Sees the Ground blended family. Rich would always say when asked about his occupation “I’m a badass laborer”, meaning he could do it all…fencing, concrete, guardrails, reclamation, construction, ranch hand and after his wife Amy’s health scare a care giver.
Rich was a kindhearted man who was always down for an adventure. If you were hanging out with Rich, you were guaranteed to have a fun-filled time. He lived up to his name, to everyone who was fortunate enough to meet and know him left feeling richer. It was normal for Rich to make new friends wherever he went. His personality was as big as his smile. He was full of one liners and witty comebacks. You had to be ready because he could burst into song at any moment whether it be in English or his specialty…in Crow. If you were lucky enough and a sister-in-law, he would serenade you with a Conway Twitty or George Jones song. He was quick to show off his old masquerade moves just to put a smile on your face. He loved to be around horses and shared that same passion with his grandson Tyler Wayne. He was so proud that so many boys in the family had their hands in riding, racing and even having their own relay teams. He loved to rep his River Road Relay gear and would even hitch a ride to horse races near and far. He would teach or share his knowledge of his favorite pastimes, softball, horse racing and golf. He would try to convert everyone especially Denver Broncos fans to cheer for “America’s team.” The Dallas Cowboys. Rich could be found wherever there was laughter and a crowd. He loved being on the softball field, playing with several teams throughout his life. Those teammates quickly became his softball family. He had a great sense of the game not only because he played for so many years but also because he was the pitcher. He was ALWAYS ready for a line drive. His pitching abilities were masterful. His influence on pitching led to his oldest son taking on the pitching position in slow pitch and his granddaughter playing college softball at Haskell Indian Nations University. He was a sport enthusiast and avid fan for his children and grandchildren. He kept every shirt from his kids’ basketball seasons when they were in high school, button, game ticket, banner and game programs from sporting events he attended. He was so proud of his children, his grandchildren and all his family. He would let everyone know of all their awards, accomplishments and upcoming events. To him that was what it was all about…Family was everything to him.
