Roman Hugs

Funeral mass Friday Jan, 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Lodge Grass. Burial following at Lodge Grass Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited 5:00 PM Thursday at the Bullis Funeral Chapel.

Roman Kyle Hugs, 28, passed away on December 31, 2021. Roman was born on October 5, 1993 in Crow Agency, MT. His Indian name Báa aachiili koochish duush “Always Lucky” was given to him by the late Eddy Little Light. Roman was a member of the “Ties the Bundle and child of Big Lodge clan.” He was baptized at Lady of Loretto Catholic Church by Father Jim Antione. He attended school in Lodge Grass, MT. Roman was a simple man and didn't like all the attention on him. He liked to call himself a "Hugs Boy." He had numerous jobs working as a laborer, he also liked to help with his parent’s cattle and doing mechanic work for family.

He married Erlissa Fighter on August 29, 2019 in Billings and the couple made their home in Billings. They raised their children in a loving home. Roman loved taking care of his kids and took pride in teaching them outdoor activities such as swimming, hunting, biking, and fishing. Roman loved his family unconditionally, he would always make a point of acknowledging them and giving tight meaningful hugs or nodding his head with a smile. He was known for telling us all, “Drive safe, put your seatbelts on and call me when you get home, love you”. Roman had a special niece, Scarlett Nomee, whom he cherished and was always happy to see. Roman had fond memories and liked to share his stories with Lacey and Caleb of growing up around their dad, Clay Gun Shows. THANK YOU Clay for treating Roman like a little brother. Roman said he trusted Uncle Wales in whatever he told him.

Roman is preceded in death by his grandfather Darrell Scalpcane Sr., grandparents Oliver and Elizabeth Hugs, great grandparents Guy and Margaret Bulltail, Joseph Curley and Bertha Beartusk; adopted mother Linda Kindness; brother Eyon Springfield; sisters Jackie Hugs and Janet Bright Wings/Hugs; his uncles Brandon Bulltail Sr. and William Hugs Sr., Jerome and Dallas Hugs, Kenneth Toineeta; his aunts Pansy Hugs and Merle Jean Harris.

Roman loved all his many nephews and nieces very much; he also took all his cousins as brothers and sisters.

His extended family includes the Goes Well, Bulltail, Blaine, Horn, She Kills family of North Dakota, Plenty Hawk, Left Hand, Flat Lip, Brien, White Hip, Black Eagle, Little Nest, Real Bird, Joseph Curley family, Bertha Freeman-Beartusk family, Little Light, Hugs, Morrison and Pretty Paint. Our family is large and we have many relatives, please accept our apology if we have failed to mention you in our time of grief.
