Ronald Gramling Obituary

Ronald Henry Gramling 73 of Saint Xavier, MT or as he liked to call “God’s Country” passed on to the other side camp February 28, 2026. Duuptakoische Bawaaluushihchesh (Bald Eagle That Feeds) his Crow name given to him by Emerson Bullchief he was Piegan and child of the Ties the Bundle.  Although he was proud of his Sioux heritage, he adapted to the Apsáalooke ways and traditions from living amongst our people for over 50 years. Ronald was born April 17, 1951, in Fort Yates, ND to Minnie Gayton. 

Ron grew up on the Standing Rock reservation attending school in Fort Yates where he earned his high school diploma. Ron enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1969 at the age of 17 years old, he then was honorably discharged in March of 1972. He also took some Crow Studies courses at Little Big Horn College.

Ron began his career working for the Crow Tribe roads department. He then went on to work for Pretty Eagle Catholic Academy as a custodian and later became a beloved bus driver for 15 years. After leaving Pretty Eagle Catholic Academy he began working for Little Big Horn College in 2003 where he retired after 22 years as a maintenance worker. 

His favorite hobbies included playing softball for the F Troop, Bad News Bears, and Camp Custer softball teams, playing basketball, volleyball, and horseshoe with the family. He also enjoyed refereeing and was part of the first Crow Basketball Officials Association. He enjoyed fishing on the Bighorn River and getting sweat wood to prepare the sweat lodge for his family.  He loved his Broncos, Yankees, and Hardin Bulldogs.

Ron is survived by the love of his life of 40 years Beverly Snell, his children Owen (Miranda) Gramling, Ronnea (Jericho), Janelle Gramling, and Owena Spotted Horse. Sisters Alice One Feather of Fort Yates, ND and Karen Comeau of Rapid City, SD. Nieces and Nephews Lynnette, Brent Gramling, Maria, Carrie Johnson, and all the Snell Kids. Grandchildren Jaizon John, Kaniel Razi, ZaRita Labess, Mila Kay, Amani MaryLee, Mesa Joe, Oaklen Griz, Luke Kobe, Cole Hunter and all the Snell grandchildren. Beloved Sister in Laws that he took as sisters, Mary (Thomas) Wartenslaben, Alfredine, Annie, Janice, and Victoria Snell. Brother-in-Law Timothy (Ella) Plainfeather.

Extended Families include Frank Falls Down Family, Family of the late Larry Pretty Weasel, LT Hugs, and family.
