Rose Ann Reed, our kind, beautiful sister, auntie/mom, cousin and friend left us to the other side camp on December 6, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Rose Reed was born January 23, 1947 in Crow Agency the daughter of George and Ida Ruby (Good Horse) Reed. She was the youngest of nine children. Her Indian name Baaloo Puux Xiasaawas was given to her by the late Mabel Pretty on Top. She was a member of the Whistling Water Clan and a child of the Big Lodge.

Rose graduated high school from Chilaco Indian School and then attended Haskell Indian College, Little Big Horn College, Eastern Montana College and Salish Kootenai College earning her degree in Early Childhood Education from SKC. She started her career at Crow Head Start then worked for a time at the Crow Carpet Mills. She began her teaching career at Pretty Eagle Catholic School where she worked for 25 years before retiring. One summer, Rose did a special internship at Gonzaga University in the area of religious studies. After her retirement from Pretty Eagle, she continued her teaching career at Salish Kootenai Head Start where she again worked with children and was affectionately known as “Gramma Rose”. Rose dedicated her life to teaching children. She never had children of her own but loved all her nieces and nephews and grandkids as her own. Rose loved country music; her collection included 45 RPM’s, LP Vinyl albums and 8 tracks. Her all time favorite artists were Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Connie Smith and Randy Travis. Everyone knew they could not touch these records without her permission and supervision.
