Roy Rides The Horse, Sr., 65, Apsaalooke name Uutee iiwaahiillii Chee, “Weasel That Does Good”, given to him by Old Man Plainfeather, passed away December 18, 2025. He was born May 22, 1960, in Crow Agency, MT, to Lewis and Doradelia (Old Elk) Rides Horse.
Roy grew up in the Crow Agency, Garryowen, and Pryor areas, where he attended school and graduated in Kinnewick, Washington. He attended Dawson Community College where he made the Dean’s List as an Art major.
Roy married Ernestine Deputee and later divorced. Together they welcomed three children: Roy (Lawryn) Rides Horse, Jr., Tanner Rides Horse, and RoyLynn Rides Horse.
Roy was a talented artist with a great sense of humor. He was a State wrestling champion and a ballroom dancer. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed Bruce Lee and action films. Although Roy had a quiet personality, he was very friendly to everyone and carried no grudges. He loved his nieces and nephews as his own.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Rides Horse and Doradelia Rides Horse, daughter RoyLynn Rides Horse; brothers Meinrod Rides Horse, Curtis Rides Horse, Adrian Medicine Horse, Leland Stewart, and Kary Grant Rides Horse, nephews Christopher Iron and John Bemo, and nieces Elora Haleyalbung and Hannah Rose Rides Horse.
Roy is survived by his sons Roy (Lawryn) Rides Horse, Jr. and Tanner Rides Horse, his 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brother Stanford Rides Horse, sister Lois Marie Rides Horse, as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters.
Extended family includes Rides Horse, Old Elk, Birdinground, Onion, Chief Child, Raining Bird, Chief Stick, Chief Goes Out (Rocky Boy Family), Top Sky, Bell Rock, Old Bear, Hunts Arrow, Walks, Old Crow, Rock Above, and White Dirt.
Our family is very large. Please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone in our grief.
