Shelia Rides Horse Obituary

Sheila A. Rides Horse, “Ihchii lá kapee, “Smudges Herself” 69 of Crow Agency entered the gates of Heaven on November 27, 2023.  She was born on December 22, 1953, in Crow Agency to Fannie Other Black Bird Deer Nose and Samuel Rides Horse, Sr. Hartford and Sylvia Stops took her in. They would travel to pow-wows and hand games.

Sheila received her education from Flandreau Indian School.  She worked for the Sun Lodge housekeeping, Crow Tribe on the roads as a flagger, then did child home care, and later she worked at the Little Big Horn Camp as a housekeeper.  Her last job was at the Awe Kualawaache Care Center.

Sheila loved to bead and go into sweats with her sister Pam.  She would also love to play bingo.  Her door was always open for the welfare of others.  She loved to push dance; she and Emil Little Light took 2nd place at the Round Hall in Crow with her late husband Lionel Bull Chief.  She would always go to the mountains and pick bear root, berries, and get úuke. Shelia enjoyed making pemican and pounded meat. She would love to sit around with her sisters and play cards, rummy and pitch late into the night.  She was always going out and around visiting her loved ones.  If you wanted to know or learn something she would sit there and show or tell you.  She was patient with others.  At Crow Fair time she would get together with her sisters and parade Dance every year. She attended Sundances, camp meetings, and Peyote meetings.  She would always show others how to cut deer meat; she was always wanting to do things with family, open to all.
