Timothy Murphy Obituary

Dr. Timothy James Murphy (Tim) passed away suddenly on January 28, 2024 at the age of 65. He died peacefully at home in his sleep. Tim was born August 6, 1958 in Joliet, Illinois to James (Jim) Murphy and Jean (Bartels) Murphy and was the oldest of five siblings.

Tim graduated high school from Plainfield, IL in 1976. After a short stint at Joliet Junior College where he met his future wife, Sue, Tim went on to get his Bachelors of Science from Montana State University, Bozeman in 1980. Tim finished his education at the University of Illinois, with a Doctorate of Dentistry, graduating in 1984. He then moved to Hardin, Montana taking over the local practice of Dr. Mawyer. He served the community as the local dentist for 30+ years, in addition to providing care through the Indian Health Service. After selling his practice in Hardin, Tim worked as the Dental Director for Klamath Open Door in Klamath Falls, Oregon, for 7+ years before fully retiring.

In retirement he lived with his wife, Sue, in Windsor, Colorado. They relocated there from Oregon to be near their children and grandchildren. He married to Sue (Mudroch) Murphy on August 30, 1980. Together they raised and loved two children, Nathan and Jestin. He loved to take part in his children’s activities and was always their biggest cheerleader. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, golfing, and traveling. He was active in his community through Kiwana’s, coaching youth sports, and serving on the school board. Tim’s pride and joy was his family, especially his kids and three grandkids. He loved watching football, especially the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame, and Montana State.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue Murphy, his children Nathan and Sarah Murphy, Jestin Murphy, grandchildren James, Miles, and Parker, and his siblings Kevin Murphy, Karen (Tim) Brehn, Nancy (John) Bostanche, and Jayne (John) Airola, brother-in-law Jeff Mudroch (Candy) and mother-in-law Mary Mudroch.
