Funeral services Wednesday December 22, 2021 at 10:00AM at the Spirit of life Foursquare Church in Crow Agency. Burial will follow at the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Visitation Monday and Tuesday 10-4.
Obituary
Victor Carlos Nomee, Sr., 62, of Lodge Grass died December 18, 2021 of natural causes. Can you imagine the welcome home celebration that took place at the portals of the pearly white gates! He was fortunate to have two Indian names the first Huuptaale (Moccasin) was given to him by his great grandmother, Gretchen Nomee. She later changed his name to Prayer Warrior. Victor was born June 3, 1959 in Crow Agency son of Marjorie and Samuel Hoops, Sr. and Videl and Ruby Stump, Sr. He was raised by his grandmother, Gretchen Bull Weasel Nomee. Victor was affectionately known as Carlos. He was a member of the Ties in the Bundle and a child of the Ties in the Bundle. He grew up and received his education in Lodge Grass and graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1979. While in high school, he participated in football and basketball. After graduation he attended Dawson Community College for two years.
He married his best friend, Fray Jefferson, on June 25, 1982, and the couple made their home in Lodge Grass. Carlos was the first one on the Crow Reservation to have his own recording studio. He recorded local musicians and others throughout Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Arizona, New Mexico, and Canada. Music was an integral part of his life as was his faith and service to his Lord and Savior. Carlos dedicated his musical talent to the Glory of God. He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Pentecostal Association. He was employed at the Lodge Grass School from 1983 until 2007 as a janitor. In 2008, he began working for the Crow Tribal Housing Authority until 2012. Carlos served two consecutive terms as a Crow Tribal Legislator from 2014 through 2018. Carlos’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, and his favorite times were when he was with his family. He also being outdoors and especially loved his time riding horses.
He is preceded in death by his son, Champ Nomee, granddaughter Angel Jefferson LaFrance, his brother Bren Nomee; his aunts Daisy Bright Wings and Ramona Backbone; his uncles Llewelyn, Carlton, Sr., Paul Jr. and John Nomee; his grandparents Paul and Gretchen (Bull Weasel) Nomee.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Fray Jefferson, daughters Casirae (Dion) Nomee LaFrance,Tia ( Josiah) Pickett, Cherish Dawes, Christiana Toineeta; his sons Tom (Tracy) Cowboy and Nehemiah Carlos, Quadan Morning, Christopher Toineeta, Varian Not Afraid, Mike and Rob Nomee, J Dean Yazzie and Tauren Jefferson; his sisters Dixie (Arnold) Foursouls, Marlo (Ron) Marva (Darrin) Sun Child, Dawn, Vidella Stump, Verena (Jr.) Dust, Althea (Aaron) Yarlott, Prudence (Jeffrey) Yellow Horn, Tiffany (Quincy) Dabney, Geraldine Schenderline, Laura Lee (Manford) Gardner, Mary (Henry) Little Light, Janice (Thomas) Morning, Veronica (Heywood) Big Day, Jr. Cathy (Wayne) Not Afraid and Georgiann (Paul) Matt; his brothers Gerald (Arlene) Black Bear, Scott (Lauren) Medicine Horse, Ruben and Videlle Stump, Jr. , Sam Hoops, Jr., Benjamin (Rebecca) Bright Wings, CJ and Jana Not Afraid, Harold (Debbie) and Elton Backbone and Elroy (Kitty) and Clement Nomee; his uncles Kenny and Russell Standing Rock, Kenny Blatt, Chester (Sharolyn) and Robert Nomee; his aunties Josie (Ben) Stands, Veronica (Brewster) Pretty on Top, Bonnie Hawk, Claudette and Elna Black Hawk, Dorma (Allered) Takes Enemy, Harriet Standing Rock, Ardith (Lloyd) Hogan, Mary Lou (Heywood) Big Day, Sr., Jocelyn and Ann Costa and Barbara Comes Up; his sister/wives Judy, Junetta, Leda, Denise and Letha; his pride and joy Nehemiah, Layla, Chanel LeBron, Lola, Champ, Tauren, Tyrese, Tawny, Tomcho, Sheila, JB, Jaden, Jordan, Dani, Raymond, Isiah, Xavier, Nora, Koda, Rusty and Beyonce; his nieces and nephews who he raised as his own Jeff (Amica ) Missy (Clint) Azurene, Larry, Rick (Talista) Caroleann (Gavi), Dave (Stephanie) Megan, Lyndzee, Louie (Chrystal), Sonny, Raydawn, Vivca, T.J., Edison, Clyde (Lanita) Dorcas (Chip), Rynalle; his adopted family Arnold (Coretta), Rebecca Stoval and Jennifer Jefferson. His extended family include the Nomee, Bull Weasel St. Marks, Belcourt, Bull Chief, Stump, Standing Rock and Denny. Our family is large, please forgive us if we have forgotten to mention you in our time of grief.
