Victoria Jeannie Pretty Paint, 63 of Black Lodge reached out and grabbed her daughter's hand and began her journey to the otherside camp on Wednesday, February 6th, 2025. Deaxkaash Biia (eagle woman) a crow name given to her by the late Irene House-Reed. Jeannie, as she was specifically known by her friends and family. Later on in life, she obtained the name “Jeannie Boom” by her grandson Ty Ty. She was a member of Big Lodge clan and child of the Greasy Mouth. All the talent and attributes she obtained from her parents, Jeannie followed their footsteps by being a great cook, seamstress, beader, and outdoorswoman. She began a career in education by obtaining the following degrees: Associate of Arts in Business Administration & Data Processing, Associate of Arts in Medical Secretary Transcription, and Associate of Arts in General Studies, all from Little Big Horn College. Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Rocky Mountain College; and a Master of Arts in Business Management from the University of Mary. Soon after obtaining a professional skill of knowledge, Jeannie began her career in the workforce working in the following fields: Crow Tribal Council and district records, Crow mental health/social service department, Crow IHS inpatient department, IHS Substance Abuse Program, Crow Indian Agency BIA, Crow Tribe Workforce Investment Act, KFC, Crow Tribal Legislative Branch, Researcher & Administrative Secretary, Crow Tribal Legal Department Legal Assistant, Washington Group International Sarpy Mine, Westmorland Resources Inc. Sarpy Coal Mine, Accounts Payable Officer & Administrative Assistant, Crow Tribal Legislative Branch Black Lodge District Representative from 2009 – 2013, Crow Tribe Economic Development Specialist, Awekulawaache Care Center Activity Assistant, U.S Census Enumerator, and Apsaalooke Nation Housing Authority EARAP Coordinator. In her tenure as Black Lodge District Representative, she was instrumental in the establishment of the “Black Lodge Enterprise” with her fellow Senators, Conrad J. Stewart and Noel Two Leggins which facilitated a business and governing process of the district. After a hard-working life of education and establishing careers, she then devoted her life full-time to the black lodge district as one of the headwoman overseeing functions organizing handgames and activities for the Black Lodge Jr’s and Sr’s. Jeannie was a proud servant and true Black Lodge Champion in her service to the district.
Jeannie is preceded in death with her daughter, Molly Jovi Smells; Grandson, Buster Lee Birdinground; Sisters, Lori Ann Pretty Paint; Brothers, Jo Jo Pretty Paint; Aunts, Pansy Williamson, Phyllis Wellknown, Glenda Morrison; Uncles, Lloyd Dawes, Claude “Sonny” Dawes Jr., and Owen Snell, Parents, Mr & Mrs Melvin (Elsie Ann) Dawes- Pretty Paint; Grandparents, Perry Pretty Paint & Grace Three Irons, Melinda Bravo-Half, and Claude Mapes Dawes. Survivors include: Her Sons, Quintin (Brielle) Birdinground Jr, JC (Taneisha) Pretty Paint, and adopted son Josh (Alysa) Link; Adopted daughter Taylor Baker; Grandchildren: Ty Ty, Aaron, Aidan, Waiverly, Marley, and Jaxon; Great grandchildren, Jaymason, Serenity, Adrial, and Rylynn. Sisters, Brenda Pretty Paint, Melva (Ray) Iron, Melvina Dawes, Jana Jo Alden, Grace Morrison, Bobbi Jo (Darrin) Old Coyote, and Gerlinda (Chan) Whiteman, Quincy (Marvin) Stewart; Brothers, Clyde, and Victor Pretty Paint; Aunts, Frances Pretty Paint, Worlene Comes Up, Agatha (Bruce) House, Lana, Avis and Daisey Three Irons, Darla (Sampson) Horn, and Valerie (Jeff) Packs Hat; Uncles, Joe Bearcrane and Woodrow “Shorty” Plainfeather. Her extended families include: Pretty Paint, Dawes, Two Leggins, Whitefox, Froze, Whiteclay, Pretty Weasel, Plenty Hoops, Bear Cloud, Singer, Deputy, Mountain Sheep, Anderson, Bull Horse, Owl Above, Woman on Top of the Mountain, Pretty On Top, Bravo, Morning, Singer, Costa and Medicine Horse Families.
