Services for Wendell Wolf Black, Jr. will be held Monday October 25, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Bullis Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in the Crow Agency Cemetery.
Obituary
Wendell Wolf Black Jr. passed away at Riverstone Hospice in Billings, Montana on October 20, 2021. Wendell was born on March 13, 1986 in Crow Agency, Montana to Wendell Wolf Black, Sr. and Imogene Rockroads Whiteman. His Indian name Aashochin daawaashe (Leading Rider) was given to him by Henry Real Bird. He was dedicated to the Lord when just a tiny baby by Nathelle Jefferson. Nathelle’s prayers were answered when Wendell gave his life to the Lord. Wendell was a member of Piegan and child of the Piegan. He was raised in Crow Agency and attended school in Hardin, Busby and attended Riverside Indian School in Caddo County, Oklahoma. He enrolled in the Job Corps Program at Kicking Horse and earned his GED and his certificate in tree thinning.
He married Dezery Sleeper in 2010 and Wendell accepted Dezery’s children as his own. We are so grateful to be a part of your life, we will keep your spirit alive. Thank you for watching us grow, for being the first man to love us. We missy more than you will ever know. We know you’ll be watching over us. Love James, Joseph, Jasmine, Lily and Grandson Ben. The couple later divorced. Wendell worked at various ranches in the area and loved working with horses. He was involved in Indian Relay and he and his brother trained horse for their own Indian Relay team. Wendell also worked for various roofing companies in the area.
He is preceded in death by his mother Imogene Rockroads Whiteman; his grandfather Leonard Wolf Black his maternal grandmother Flossie Rockroads, paternal great grandmother Lula Mae Wallace, grandfathers Lester Jefferson, Jr. and Harvey Whiteman ; his aunties Loretta Wolf Black; uncles Richard Wolf Black
He is survived by his father Wendell Wolf Black, Sr.; his adopted parents Orin and Mary Anderson; his adopted children Jasmine, Lily and Joseph Sleeper Webb and James Brien; grandmothers Violet Wolf Black, Melissa Carpenter Falls Down Linda (Gary) Howey, Pinky Bird, Gloria (Porgey) Old Elk, Sandra Stops, Kathleen “Sweetheart” Carpenter, Ethelene Kills Night ; his auntie/grandmas Wilma Laforge, Tina (Conrad) Alden, Susan Birdinground, Mary Ann LaForge and Delores Takes Enemy; his grandfather Tommy (Mildred) Carpenter; his uncle/grandpas Joseph (Rachel) Wallace, Henry (Edith) Jefferson, Warren (Lydia) Wolf Black, Dennis Bulltail, Cornelius Little Nest, Lynwood His Bad Horse, Sr. and Willie Stewart; his brothers Wyndell James, Randy Cole and Mason Wolf Black, Jarvis ( Venetia ) Biglake and TyWayne Pretty on Top; his sisters Lula (Faron) Enemy Hunter , Gloria (Devan) Russell, Angel (Robert Jr.) Thompson and Eileena (Leon) Milda Vanessa and Rochelle Pretty on Top; his special nephew who he named, Jericho Laforge and his special niece who he often took care of Essence Medicine Top; his uncles Bruce Wolf Black, Kevin Dust of Paris, France; his many nieces and nephews; his aunts Clara (Vincent) White Crane,Nellie White Man Elizabeth Brown, Mary Laforge. His extended family includes the Wolf Black, Carpenter, Jefferson, Rockroads, Whiteman, Stands in Timber, Curley, Anderson, Takes the Horse, Wallace, Bright Wings, Red Star and Dust. Our family is large, please forgive us if we have not mentioned you in our time of grief.
