William “Bill” Lincoln

June 26, 1951 - February 8, 2026

William “Bill” Lincoln went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 8, 2026, at Awekulawacha Nursing Home in Crow Agency, MT, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on June 26, 1951, to Francis and Emily Whiteclay Thunder Iron Lincoln. He was born and raised in Crow Agency at the family home. He started Crow Public School, and then for his 8th-grade year, he attended St. Labre Catholic School in Ashland, MT. He then attended high school and graduating at Flandreau Indian High School in South Dakota. While in high school, he excelled academically and was in cross country, track/field, and a star basketball player all four years. Breaking the record by making 50 points during one game. After high school, he wanted to enlist in the army like his father, uncle, and brothers, but was not able to due to his hearing. He then attended the Indian Police Academy education program in March 1976. Becoming a police officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a 2nd lieutenant in the Northern Cheyenne reservation, where he worked for 20 years, and worked for the Big Horn County Sheriff’s department in 1983. 

Bill married Loudon Blueshield in Chinook, MT, in 1971 after high school; from this union, he had a daughter, Tammy Marie Lincoln. Later on, he remarried to Janice Gets Down Often in 1977 in Sheridan, WY. From this, they had three kids together: Roanne, Warren Joe, and his pride and joy, Willena. He also helped Janice raise her two nephews, Ernest Gets Down and Richard Jarvis.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leroy, Kenneth, Garry, Lyle, Meredith (kickem), Gordon Paul Lincoln, and Hugo Whiteclay; his sisters Linda, Ona, Edith, Marie (Baby Jean), Mable Ann Lincoln, and Lois Whitehip; his uncle Wilson Lincoln, his nephew, Francis (Kebo) Whitehip; his niece Samantha Black Eagle, and adopted brother Sonny “Blacks” Black Eagle.

Bill is survived by his children Tammy Lincoln, Willena (Travis) Reed, Roanne and Warren Gets Down; adopted children Jonathon Pretty On Top, Robert “Bobby” Gunshows, and Nadine Wolfchild; his sisters Rosemary Lincoln, Debbie Gust, Francine (John) Small, Joyce and Mary Laforge, Myra Lefthand, Clarice (Spencer) Denny, Loretta Three Irons, Vicky and Wyla Medicine Horse, Jennifer Flatlip, Janet Costa, Rebecca Buffalo, Dolly, Margaret, and Kathryn Stiffarm; brothers Thomas (Cheryl) Whiteclay, Vernon III (Jolene), Joe Whiteclay, and Robert Flatlip; an adopted brother Jerome Whitehip; aunt Veronica Whiteclay; grandmother Mary Helen Medicine Horse; nieces Jolene (Cheyenne) Bixby, Allison and Anna Pretty On Top; nephews Henry (Garnett) Brightwings III, Avery Pretty On Top, Neil (Sandy) and Garey (Rochelle) Whitehip, Matthew (Mallory) Brightwings, Meredith and Brian Lincoln of Idaho, and Lyle W. Lincoln of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren Camilla, Melissa, Jonathan Jr., Pamela, and Marish Smith, Landon, and  Aslia Long Knife, Trevonna, Travis Jr., Tayen, Tayunna Reed, Joliz (Devin) Birdhat, Margaret, Tory Springfield, Skye, Anthony, Keinen, Cameron, Kingston Gets Down Often, Larin (Ronelle), and Cameron Black Eagle, Kallie (Robin) Old Bear, Marshall Brightwings, Curtis (Charice) Enick, Emily (Alex) Mendoza, Kyren and Katelyn (Isel) Bixby, Derell Harjo, Aidan (Ilena) Birdinground, Arlanna, Amaya, Sienna, Sylan, and Miriam Pretty On Top, Sien (Marissa) Big Hair, Averyanna (Red) Laforge, Henry (Savannah), Brett (Antonia) and Lesleigh Pretty On Top, Wilson, and Chantina Whitehip, Dewey, Justin, and Heather Brightwings, Tamara (Terrence) Fixico, Ashley, Francis, Neil Jr, Kane, Merah, Garey Jr, and Arion Whitehip; and his great grandchilden Jonathan “Jonny Boy” Argueta, Gracen, Steven, and Logan Bird Hat, Emilla Springfield, and Lorenzo Pisano; along with his numerous other grandchildren.

The extended family includes Whiteclay, Big Lake, Shane, Beauqumont, Flatlip, and LaForge. 

We, the family, would like to express and show our greatest gratitude and appreciation to the Awé Kualawaaché Nursing Home staff for the love and care they provided to Bill. Thank you!!
