Woodrow Lee Brien IishchiLaakash (Young Jack Rabbit) Passed away Peacefully on February 28th, 2026 with his family by his side. Woodrow was born September 24th, 1950 on his Papa Harry Don’t Mix homestead in Lodge Grass MT. to Emma Don’t Mix and Clarence Brien. Woodrow was a Big Lodge and a child of the Big Lodge.
Woodrow enlisted in the US Army for the Vietnam War in 1969. He was later honorably discharged in 1972 after being wounded in combat shortly after returning, he attended college in Albuquerque, New Mexico for Telecommunication. After finishing college, he was hired as a Foreman as a Helitack for the BIA Forestry and BIA Irrigation and he retired after 36 years. He later worked for the Crow Tribal Water Resource as a foreman for a few years.
Woodrow was a Jockey in his younger years and won many races. Woodrow was a Humble and well respected man amongst his community. He was also a very traditional man.
Woodrow was a member of the Native American Church, he went into many sundances and had the privilege to build many sweat lodges for numerous people.
He also had the honor to give many Indian names to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and children amongst the community.
He was especially Proud of his grandson Jr. for enlisting and finishing in the U.S Army. He loved showing his great grandsons how to hunt and do carpentry work, but most of all he loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandchildren
and he loved going to his great grandchildren's sporting events, he was so happy when his great-grandson KC’s cross country team took 2nd at state.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Bonnie Don’t Mix, Margaret Springfield,Brothers Robert Brien Sr. Harry Dean, Robert (Bugsy), Wendell Springfield, and Darwin Powers; Grandchildren Varian and Merri Beth Brien, Great grandchildren Faith Deputee, Lyric Pretty Paint and Roberta Brien.
Woodrow is survived by his wife of 54 years Gladyce. His sons Myers (Vera) Sr, Edward (Alfredine) Sr, Travis (Tami) Sr, Isaiah Brien Sr. and Daughters Emily Brien, Adelia (Kevin) Monroy Sr. Danielle (Daidrian) Old Elk, Grandchildren Marshea (Aljay) Big Hair, Myers Brien Jr, Varina (Dan) Scott Sr, Tamara, Daniel, Woody Jo and Christian Brien, Bailey (Westin) Amyotte, Travis (Isabelle) Jr, Armando (Amerah), Nicole, Marcus and Dion Brien, Tomas Chief Child, Jake Fraser, Arthur, Emma, Benjamin and Mark Big Man, Vincent Walks and Keith Ware; Great grandchildren whom he raised as his own George, KC, Akaiha, Kevlynn, Imani and Zadie Monroy, Alaiha, Maylanea, Daimian, Skyla and Kingston Old Elk, Woodrow had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, Aunt Mary Helen (Alex) Medicine Horse, Jr. and uncle Russell Wallace; Adopted Daughters Mishella, Leah Brien, Eunice Bowers; Adopted sons Everette, Cedar, Charlie, Harry Dean Brien, Kendall Old Horn, Mark Nomee Sr, Woodrow Springfield Sr, Calbin Old Horn, Sante Iron, Shane Graham, Jon Fighter, Franklin White Clay and Lance and Stephen House. Special friends Brandon Good Luck and Gary Dawes, Sr. There are additional adopted children and grandchildren, but in our sorrow, we are unable to recall. And numerous Nieces and Nephews that he loved very much. His Brothers William Sr, Josh Sr, Francis Springfield Sr, Raymond, Paul and Bill House, Ricky (Ann) Birdinground, James Wilson, Clinton and Faron Iron, Larry Kobieluz, Danny Powers, Kenneth Enemy Hunter, Curtis, Eric, Daniel, and Harold Jess Brien; Sisters Mary Springfield, Elizabeth (Earl) Old Chief Sr, Maria (Preston) Onion, Beth Nomee, Myra Gros Ventre, Ardith Hogan, Lottie (Curtis) Medicine Horse, Elizabeth and Sherly Fighter, May Ann, and Laurie Smith, Lori House, Mary Rogers, Sandra Grant, Rebecca Jefferson. Maternal extended family Bad Bear, Lincoln, Holds The Enemy, Gun Shows, Bright Wings,Whiteman Runs Him, Lefthand, He Does It, Birdinground, Yellowmule Paternal family Brien, Eastman, Cummins, One Goose, Back Bone, Takes The Horse.
We would like to give a special thanks to Nurse Jackie Leonne, Dr.Brewin and Dr. Paul Murter for the tremendous care they have given to Woodrow.
