Zaydin Blake Ridesthebear-Demontiney of Lodge Grass, Montana made his journey to the other side camp. His Indian name was Aashxalusshish (Buffalo Horn Runner) given to him by his great grandmother Joan Horn and great uncle Floyd Horn. He was affectionally called “Blakster Man” by grandmother Jacalyn. He was born on February 20, 2006 to Lashawna Ridesthebear and Michael Demontiney. He was raised by his grandparents Trivian and Jeff Ridesthebear. His great grandmother Joan Horn was the reason why he loved ranching and the cowboy way. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and child of the Greasy Mouth clan. He was a faithful member of the Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church.
Zydin Blake attended Elementary School in the Billings School System and St. Labre. He attended Lodge Grass High School and graduated with the class of 2024.
He grew up learning the ranch ways while helping his Horn family in No Water. Riding horses and tending to the cattle out in No Water was the greatest joy for him. This life way developed into a love of working with horses and cattle. He looked forward to working with family and especially his uncle Franklin Rowland. He enjoyed listening to Bruce Nomee’s Jokes. After a hard days work the picnics out in the country was one of his favorite things to do. During his junior year in high school he worked for the Dave Watson Ranch of Lodge Grass. After completing his high school credits in January 2024 he started working for the Billings Livestock Commission in Billings, Montana. He found jobs where he could do what he loved to do the best.
At the age of 16, he started competing in the adult category of bull riding. His Mentor was Cleve Spang who was a part of the Christian Cowboy Association. He traveled with Cleve Spang throughout the northwest competing in Rodeos. He competed in Bull riding and Saddlebronc. His heros were JB Mauney and Jess Lockwood. He studied videos of saddlebronc and bull riding to become more competitive. He loved to watch boxing videos, he especially enjoyed watching Roberto Duran, Mohammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Sugar Ray Leonard.
Zaydin respected his great uncle Christopher Horn who won all-around champion numerous times as a rodeo cowboy. He was very proud to have family members who were competitive as Rodeo Cowboys, his uncle Nicholas Demontiney and great grandfathers Forest and Floyd Horn.
Blake loved his family especially his great grandmother Joan Horn. When she suffered a stroke and was recuperating he entertained her to try to make her happy. He would perform and dance to music and even put on a masquerade show for her during Halloween. Blake had a great smile that would brighten everyone’s day.
