Stephanie Kaye Pretty Weasel Iron

Stephanie Kaye Pretty Weasel Iron, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 4, 2018. She was born in Hardin on December 27, 1984. Her Indian name Awaxaawe’ Baaxbaash aakeenchawkeesh “One Who Prays on the Holy Mountain” was given to her by her late grandmother, Belva Tushka. She was affectionately known at “Shaw Cakes” by her paternal family.  She was the daughter of George and Mikki Tushka Riddle and Darrell Pretty Weasel. She grew up primarily in the Fort Smith area, graduating from Hardin High School in 2003. She continued on in her studies at the Salish Kootenai and Little Big Horn Colleges. 

Stephanie was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Big Lodge Clan and was a member of the H.O.M.E. Church in Billings.


In her youth, she participated in Little League baseball, middle school volleyball and was a high school cheerleader. Stephanie was named in the “Who’s Who of American Students” for her academic achievements. 

She enjoyed things such as: fishing, boating, camping, hunting with her dad, sewing, crocheting, beading, fashion, hair and makeup.

On January 14, 2006, Stephanie became the mother of Christene Kaye Wilson. Her daughter was the love of her life. She loved to spoil her nieces and nephews and was affectionately known as “Nonnie”. She often contributed to the Sunday school program at church to make sure every kid had a treat. 

On February 17, 2012, Stephanie married Andrew Shelby Iron in Billings.
The couple made their home in Ft. Smith, Billings and was currently living in Hardin. When their nephew Jackson “Jack Jack” was born, they immediate fell in love and became his second parents and assisted in raising him. 

Stephanie was currently employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Crow Agency as a Realty Technician. Stephanie was a young lady full of life and excitement and was always pushing for greater accomplishments in life and inspired others to do the same. 

Stephanie joins her grandparents Belva and Jimmy Tushka Sr. Katie and Owen Pretty Weasel Jr., Josie Moreno, Victoria Hernandez and George L. Riddle Sr.; her uncles Myron Little Light Sr., Fred and Edward Pretty Weasel; her aunt Margaret Riddle-Johnson; her brothers Hank Blacksmith and Frank Tushka, her nephew Kayson Tushka and her niece Lexi Pretty Weasel in Heaven. 

Stephanie leaves behind to carry on her legacy, her husband Andrew Shelby Iron, her daughter Christene Kaye; her nephew Jackson Pretty Weasel who the couple took as their own; her beloved niece C’celya, and nephews Jediah and Seidell Plain Bull. The couple loved their many nieces and nephews and cared for them as their own. 

She is survived by her parents, grandmothers Kathryn Old Crow and Velma (William) Roberts; her sisters Joyce Pretty Weasel, Bradie Pretty Weasel, Billie Kaye (Bradford) Black Eagle, Veronica (Nathan) Enick, Sr. and Vanessa (Jesse) Tossey; her brothers, Michael He Crow Jr., Connor Pretty Weasel, Dale and Danny Riddle; her maternal aunts; Lynn Tushka, Billie (Burdick) Two Leggins, Kaylene Little Light, Anita (Duane) Bull Chief, Jewel (Vincent) Tushka-Crooked Arm, Juanita (Conrad) Yellow Mule; her material uncles, Jim Tushka Jr., Michael (Anna) Old Crane, Jared (Nikki) Stewart, David Bearshield, and Billie Harris; her paternal aunts,  Stephanie (Joe Christie), Jewel (Hugh Blacksmith Sr.), Brenda and Kathryn Pretty Weasel; her paternal uncles,  Harold, William, Howard and George Pretty Weasel; and her mother and father-in-law, Edward and Mary Iron.  

Her extended family includes the Medicine Horse, Bravo, One Goose, Pretty On Top, Door, Big Shoulder, Lacquette, Tushka, Ontiyebbi, Wesley, Amos, Riddle, Hernandez, Froze, White Fox, Takes Enemy, Jefferson, Adams, Dawes, Pretty Paint, White Clay, Rides the Horse, LaForge, Teeter, Fitzpatrick, Bird Hat, Plenty Hoops, Spotted Horse, Costa, Tobacco, Stray Calf, Anderson, White, Bear Cloud, Stops, Williamson, Bear Claw, Not Afraid, Three Irons, Hill, Rides The Bear, Onion, Bad Bear, Singer, Ten Bear, Bad Horse, Owen Snell Family and Veda Iron.  Our family is large, if we have forgotten you, please accept our apologies. Funeral service will be May 9, Wednesday at  11:00 AM inthe Spirit of Life Foursquare Church. Burial will be held in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery.
