Victoria Brown

Victoria Brown, 74, of Crow Agency went home to be with the Lord December 13, 2019 at home surrounded by her loved ones. Baá Xxushiítchaiísh (Good Helper) a name given to her by Annie Singer was born on April 27, 1945 in Crow Agency a daughter of Richard Little Light and Grace Mae Singer.  In keeping with Crow tradition, as the first grandchild was given to her grandparents, Franklin and Mae House. She was later raised by Cleo Medicine Horse, Sr. growing up in the Black Lodge area.  Victoria received her early education in Hardin and later at the St. Pierre Indian Boarding School where she learned the trade of sewing and cutting hair.  After graduating, she attended Haskell Indian Nations College in Kansas and then returned home to start her family.

Victoria married Paul “Skippy” Deputee in 1959 in Sheridan, Wyoming and the couple made their home in Lodge Grass later moving to Crow Agency. The couple had three sons and one daughter.  Mr. Duputee passed away in 1991 and she later married Charles Brown, II of Wyola in 1994.  They made their home in Wyola later moving to Crow Agency.  Mr. Brown passed in January 2013. 

She was a talented seamstress and an expert beadwork artist.  Victoria was called upon to design and create regalia for Crow bridal showers, horse regalia for parading, buckskin and elk tooth dresses and Pendleton coats.  She left a piece in every item she created to be forever cherished.  What an honor to own such a treasure.  Victoria enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada for the Lord, often making detours to flea markets where she carefully selected gifts for her loved ones.  She was a true woman of God and a relentless intercessory prayer warrior and never missed Sunday services and weekly Bible studies.  She read scriptures daily waking every morning at the divine mercy hour of 3:00 a.m. to send her prayers out to whomever was in need.  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy vs 4-7.

Reunited now with all her loved ones who have gone on before, her parents Grace Mae, Richard and Cleo, Sr.; her sons Paul “Cowboy” and Fred Deputee; her grandchildren Faith Deputee, Karl Jr., Zachariah Big Hair, and Lorenzo Ontiveros; adopted sons Don Adams, Wally Three Irons; adopted daughter Carlene Pretty On Top; her brothers Cleo, Jr. and Fredyln Old Bear; her sister Sonja Roundface;  her aunts Irene Reed, Ruth Alden, Vera Ann White Clay, Donna Pretty On Top, and Rosiebelle Fighter; her niece Kelsey Birdinground. 

She is survived by her children Jodene (Karl) Big Hair, Darius (Velda), Luke, Sayah, Grover (Christy) Deputee; her siblings Ora Mae Medicine Horse, Theo Dean (Elias) Hugs, Lydia (Eugene) Birdinground, Roberta Medicine Horse, Una Rose Little Light, Shirley Bad Bear, Rosella Shane, Henry Charles Little Light; her Spiritual Family  Fred (Phyliss) Bull Calf, Mary Good Luck, Lorena (John) Holds the Enemy, John ( Carol)  Bullin Sight, Almeda (Dean) Good Luck, Mary and Elisha Falls Down, Melissa and Sonny Falls Down, Pinky Bird, Lauren Spint, Larry, Linda Mae, Larney, Elizabeth, Larry Jr., Solomon  and Casey Little Owl, Louise Ann Crooked Arm, Reva (Marlin) Not Afraid, Joseph (Lorraine) Bear Cloud Sr., Lavonna and Curtis Real Bird, and Jim and Jennette Felix; her adopted children Cindy Alden, Jennifer (Bruce) White, Melissa Ontiveros, Shelly Iron, Kendall (Bernice) Old Horn, Ramona (Dean) Bear Claw, Glen Old Lodge, Frank (Cami) Knows His Gun, Makalia Gutierrez, Christina Standish, Joanne (Hoss) Jack, Carmelia, Eldon and Ralph Brown, Jr., Cameron McCormick and Jeff Adams; her adopted sisters Geneva Black Eagle, Barbara and Mary Helen (Alex) Medicine Horse, Sophie Left Hand and Corliss Iron; adopted brother Norris (Shirley)Davies; her grandchildren Karlan and Karl Big Hair III, Lachelle Pickett, Zander, Andrianna, Kimberley, Jeremy, Fred Jr., Delores, Jericho (Vonda), Sammy, Daralyn (Aljay), Victoria (Beau), Roberta (Christian) and  Darian Deputee, Coty (Velma) Brown, Brandy and Tyler Red Fox,  Kimberly, Maggie and Jeremy Deputee, April (Regis) Hogan, Kristy Love, Yolanda (Lawrence) Flat Lip, Jr., Fred (Yovanna) Alden IV, Marcel (Tremayne) White Fox, Taylan Boy Alden, Zane Pretty On Top, Henry (Melissa) Pretty On Top, Tai Bulltail, Nikki Tushka; 40 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson, Jeremiah; her aunts and uncles Larry Old Elk, Clifford BirdinGround, Bruce (Agatha) House, Raymond House, Fannie (Kenneth) Plenty, Mary (Edward) Iron, Rebecca (Calvin) Jefferson, Myrna, Deanna “Peewee” Medicine Horse, Martha, Susie, Adam (Bernice) and  Nellie Singer; her special nieces and nephews taken in as her own, Rona (Lyndon) Driftwood, Carrie and Kallie Jo Hugs, Jill (Michael) Hill Jr., John Hugs, Carol Dean Reed, Tia Rose Buffalo, Myra, Spike, Josh and Gina Medicine Horse Jeryl Lynn, Vanessa, Philamine and Angie Spint, Jess and Zac Birdinground. Her extended family includes Singer, Three Iron, Fog In The Morning, House, Medicine Horse, Little Light, Beaver, Muskrat, Crooked Face Child, Top Sky, Stump, Weasel Boy, Windy Boy, Denny, Medicine Horse and Standing Rock. We have a large family, please accept our apology if we have forgotten you in our time of grief.

The family requests those attending he service to wear a Pendleton jacket to honor our mother, sister, aunt and Kaale Victoria. The family would like to thank Dr. Lucas, Nurse Jody, Alma McCormick and all who prayed and brought food, gave Pendletons and monetary gifts.

Services will be Wednesday December 18th at 11:00 at the Spirit of Life Foursquare Church in Crow Agency with interment to follow in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
