Emery White Hip Obituary

Emery White Hip passed away on April 8, 2023, in Crow Agency, Montana.  He was born on January 5, 1976 in Crow Agency, Montana to Steven White Hip, Jr. and Patricia Little Light. His Indian name, “Walks To The Cross”, was given to him by Francis Bear Claw. He was a child of Greasy Mouth and a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan.

Emery was an outdoorsman who fished the Little Horn River from Kaala Emma’s all the way to the Black Bridge with his good friends.  He liked to hunt in the Wolf and Big Horn Mountains with his kids and his nephew, Wacey. He always helped others and made sure his elders were stocked up on their deer meat when he came back with his kill. Emery had a God given talent for what he loved to do. He made his own arrows and competed in arrow throwing tournaments taking first place at the Rocky Mountain College Arrow Tournament.  He was a natural with horses loving to ride and break them. It was one of the few things he had patience for.  Emery enjoyed listening to reggae music.

Emery is preceded in death by his mother; grandparents Lucy Iron, Florence Brown, Leonard Little Light, Edward Little Light, Jr., Steven White Hip, Sr., Esther Young Swallow White Hip, Edmond Little Light, Lucy Iron Little Light, Clara White Hip-Nomee and Raphael White Hip; sisters Tracy White Hip, Rosella Bull Tail Not Afraid, Theresa Bernadette, and Lalani White Hip, Joselyn and Jacklyn Falls Down; brothers Patrick Nomee, Barry Wall, Ryder Jr., Jason, Jacob and RJ White Hip, Leo Onion, Christian Stewart, Carl Venne Jr., Isaiah and TJ Morning; aunts and uncles Bernadine Nomee, Kate White Hip, Don and Lewis Little Light, Aloysius and Ryder White Hip,Sr., Daniel Takes Gun, and Dennis Mountain Sheep; nieces Susie White Hip and Kassie Bull Tail and nephew Thomas Russell.

 

Emery is survived by his father Steven White Hip, Jr., auntie moms Carmen LaForge and Maria (Preston) Onion; daughters Agnes White Hip and Laura Not Afraid, son Emerson White Hip; sisters Terri Little Light, Mallory Venne, April Kim He Crow, Gwynette Bull Tail, Lennie Little Light, Corie Bull Tail, Lucy Little Light, Debra Not Afraid, Stephanie Little Light, Heidi Not Afraid, Wendy Little Light, Summer La Forge, Janna Falls Down, Diane (Michael) Charette, Brigitte Takes Gun, Stephanie (Theodore) Little Light, Rhonda Rides Horse, JJ (Dee) Not Afraid, Velma (McKinley) Sees The Ground, Ashley, Rynell and Dorcas White Hip, Kallie Pretty On Top, Mary (Eldon) Not Afraid, Ramona (Brian) Blacksmith, and Joanna Nomee; brothers Ronald Falls Down Jr., Wacey Little Light, Cyrus “Sonny” Jr, Leider and Cleveland Leider, Robin (Tanya) Stewart, Lee Onion, Travis (Tammy) Brien, Chance White Hip, Scott Medicine Horse, Clement Nomee, Quindell and Thomas Bull Tail, Clayton T. “Sonny”,Jr. and Destin LaForge; grandfathers Jerome and Vincent White Hip; aunts Dorcella Little Light, Edwina Venne, Ardith (Lloyd) Hogan, Annie (Cyrus) Leider Sr., Georgine Falls Down, Luanna (Marvin) Stewart, Christine (Ruben) DeCrane, Ursula Rides Horse, Mary (Henry) Little Light, Janice Morning, Gloria Good Luck and Vicki Howe and Lauralee (Manford) Gardner; uncles Clyde, Curtis and Yvon Little Light and Robert Howe; his special friends Kendall Left Hand, Ray Hill, Jr. and Mike Good Luck.

Extended family includes the Rides the White Hipped Horse, Takes Gun, Rides Horse, Don’t Mix, Blaine, Bullshows, Cummins, Flat Mouth, Grey Bull, He Does It, Little Nest, Old Bull, Moccasin, Good Luck, Howe and Small families.
